haha...that sounds like an idea I may go back and get the intake cam out of the first car I had almost apart. The exhaust cam from the car I am taking apart now, is that the cam I need to complete the "secret' cam swap? I kinda like going to the yard and tearing stuff apart I'm still wondering if the intake manifold is any good.

No need to jack it up. Just beat the cover out of the way.

I didn't know they made a QUAD OHC...there was a bunch of the OHC ones there but it seemed like most of the 2.3 quads were a 95. I may try and go back and get the intake cam off the 95 just for fun but I'll have to undo the upper mount to jack the motor up to get at the bolts to get the cam tower off.

Did you happen to check the Vin to see if it was VIN A?

I just grabbed an exhaust HO cam out of a 94 GA manual car with VIN A. The side of the car even said quad HO

Just wondering if you checked the vin#

Whitecavy - No I didn't check the vin. I may have got a pic of the vin, I'll post it.

So I finally got back to the yard, took the jack with me and jacked the motor up a bit without even unbolting the engine mounts (had @!#$ty mounts) and gave me enough room to play with. I ended up beating the chain down to wedge it in there which pushed the timing chain cover back enough out of the way. Had a bit of trouble getting the last bolt out from behind the cam sprocket, broke 1 wrench, snapped my 10mm socket, and twisted my adapter to go from a large to smaller socket. I hope to god I got the right part this time

I'm pretty sure that tranny that was in the car you grabbed the exhaust cam out of, David, was the older Getrag. Shaould have taken it, it's $$$!!!!! Uber rare....assuming it was the older Getrag. ( i don't remember if the NVG was only 90-92)

Is the cam or lifters of any use? Not sure what size the lifters were or what the cam was...it appears to be a 1990 grand am

Thrice, I had no idea lol

I also thought only the HO cams where in VIN A cars, and thought VIN D cars were the Secret cams?

Matthew, should of taking a hammer to the timing housing to get the cams out, lol thats what I did this weekend

I'm kinda wondering if I should go back and get the cam out of the car and finish stripping down the 95 to get the intake cam and then I'll have the secret cam swap. I don't know how many kms were on it so I'm not sure if the lifters would be of any use to me. I may run back and see how much the stuff will cost.

Car has only 119***kms (74,000miles). I'm gonna try and sell the exhaust cam and maybe pick up the intake cam off the 95 is someone wants it. Here a few pics of the lifters, not sure if they would be any good or not. I can get the lifters for 5 bucks so not sure if I should or not.

Now, grap the intake cam, mod it with a HEX drive, and a chop saw, drill it out with a 47/64 bit...

Presto, 375 lift all the way around.

If anyone has a set of HO cams or knows someone with a set let me know cause I need a set. I finally got the cam tower and now I have no cams to use.
