Adding a water temp gauge 99 z-24
Sunday, July 08, 2012 6:05 PM
I searched and found a few threads, but they didn't have what i was looking for. I'm looking for options to install an electronic gauge (autometer pro comp) using the stock sender (LD9) OR at least the stock location without adding a tee.

So does anybody know what the gauge wants to see for resistance or what the sensor will put out? I know one of the threads someone mentioned a GM 3 wire sensor, or would it be as simple wiring the gauge lead into the sensor wiring?

And if anyone is wondering the gauge in the cluster is not working (reads over 200* all the time) and i would rather not replace the whole cluster. I also know the sensor is correct, it reads 180 ish on the scanner cruising.

In one of the old oil pressure posts people were using a port on the back of the block that was in the water gallery. it was 1/8 npt if I recall correctly. There used to be pictures of it as well.

1/8? Seems pretty small for a temp sender...

I use a GM 3-wire to run my MS-II and factory ECU off of 1 sensor.

You do know that 1/8 NPT isn't 1/8" correct?

Part number? Or what car does it come from?

And yes i know what size 1/8 pipe is.. it just seems small since most senders i do at work are 3/4. But then again thats on tractors.

Most all automotive sensors run off either 1/8 npt or 1/4 npt.

I don't doubt that, but like I said, I work on tractors mostly and everything is a step or two bigger on them.. never had to mess with senders and such on cars, only ever touched the one on my cavy was to swap coolant temp sensors when my water outlet cracked

Order it for a 93 Cavalier w/ 2.2L engine. IIRC
