0.040" Overbore on L61 or LSJ?

Would the resident Eco people consider it safe? I hear the sleeves are pretty thin. I found one thread one the Ion RL forum where they told the guy not to overbore an LSJ at all but didnt really give a lot of reasoning aside from the sleeves being thin.

0.020" is used on rebuilt motors a lot and .040" really isnt much more so I feel like it should be safe unless the motor is running a lot of boost.

I hoping someone has done it.

Just get stronger sleeves put in and bore it .060 over lol. I have seen some crazy things done with LSX engines and sleeves so I am sure you can do the same.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

I'm not wanting to do a resleeve. Its definitely possible but the machine shop costs start going way up when I go that route and defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do.

If the sleeves are damaged enough that you have to go .040, then i would just go get another block. Ecos are cheap.

It's not for a rebuild. I'm working on some oddball stuff and just need to know if its safe on stock sleeves.

I would definitely say no... and you dont need the machine shop to put them in...gm has a tool to pop them out....4 new sleeves from a gm parts counter and hone it to. .010. Gm service information and the instructions that come with the tool say not to hone after installing the new sleeves but i have no idea why. If you measure the bores with a dial bore gauge after the new sleeves are in you will see that they're all over the place. Order. 010 pistons and hone after measuring the pistons to get the right clearance.

40 thou is not worth it for increased displacement, if that's where you're going with this.

the difference it makes will be lost in the miniscule differences caused by atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature.

Some factory 87mm domed pistons with a 23mm wrist pin, LSJ rods, and L61 crank is hopefully where I'm going with this.

The factory 86mm bore bored 0.040" makes an 87mm bore give or take a little the tolerancing for piston to wall clearance.

I did the math on the displacement and it only bumps it from 2197cc to 2248cc. Maybe I could round up and call it a 2.3 Eco.
