I'm not looking for free pulleys, but I am heading out to strip a '97 2.2 today if you need any dimensions checked. This engine is currently complete, except maybe for an alternator. I also may have a pulley from a 94 engine out in my boxes O' parts.

Is the pulley you're making a different material, weight, diameter, or ???

Weight depends on the design I go with. It will either be "just" a pulley with no hub. "This is what I will probably make." You would reuse stock hub....or a complete pulley with hub. So one piece instead of two. Not sure what I will be doing yet. I will decide before Sunday.

It will be made from T6-6061 aluminum and either be hard coated or bare aluminum. Depending on what the customer wants. It is stock diameter just light weight. For example my LD9 cranks weigh around 23oz...... stock cranks weigh around 64 oz.

IIRC, my stock pulley has no seperate hub, it's one piece (I'll have to pull it out of the parts bin when I get home to verify though). All the aftermarket pullies I've had are one piece as well.

I keep on getting mixed review and storys on the LN2 and 2200 cranks. some have hubs some don't....its all over the place.

Well, I can confirm the '97 engine pulley looks like the one pictured above, and that it's a two piece assembly. I can also confirm that the OHV Build Guide written for 87 vintage 2.0 liter engines shows a one piece pulley assembly. So there have been at least 2 different pulley designs used.

My suggestion is to make a separate pulley only, and here's why. There's some amount of additional machining in adding the hub assembly, which adds to production time and final cost. The majority of your market is likely to be 3rd gen cars and of that I'd expect more of the cars to be 97 and newer engines, which really appear to use the 2 piece part. When you attempt to change the pulley, if you have a 2 piece version it's possible to replace the pulley only with just wrenches and patience. But if you have to remove and install the hub you'll need a harmonic balancer puller and installer to do the job correctly, since the hub is a pressed onto the crank And finally, the hub assembly is probably relatively inexpensive for those who need it, my guess is it's about $15 to $25 new.

I was digging through a box of parts from a '94 engine today and found the same 2 piece pulley as everyone else has found. I'd bet 94+ all use the same design.

This has come up again by a few members. Would everyone want a stock sized one or an under driven one?

30% seems to be the absolute smallest you would want to go. 20% under driven seems like the best choice in my opinion.

Smaller pulley = slower rotation of the accessories. It frees up HP if done correctly.

I have been selling under driven and stock size lightweight LN2 crank pulleys.

normally people that get the under driven crank are getting an over driven alternator pulley. Since this is the absolute lightest combo, and the charging system spin slightly faster than stock. Like 500 rpm higher

On an LD9 setup the alternator spins the stock RPM.
