High flow fuel pump for 1999, Please help!
Monday, October 13, 2014 10:08 PM
So after reading through all of the posts on here that I could find, I was convinced that I needed to purchase a fuel pump that was set up for the venturi feed system. However, this is not the case. I got my new fuel pump, and I tore into my fuel pump module, only to discover that the 95-99 fuel pump setup does not use the little black venturi hose with the extra outlet on the pump. The 95-99 pump is a single outlet style, but it has dual inlets! It has an inlet on both sides of the bottom of the pump...WTF?!!!

Can anyone give me any information/help/suggestions as to what to do about this? Can I still use the pump with the venturi setup? Can I use any offset inlet pump? Or am I stuck with a stock replacement module?

*Edit*

This is concerning the steel fuel tank.

My 99 pump has / had a venturi. I replaced it with a Racetronix F-body pump....that also had a venturi. Mine also is in a Metal tank with a rubber surround.
If I was going to do it again I would use a Racetronix W-body pump.

Found this through google search, appears to be the correct stock replacement pump. Unfortunately this doesn't help me in my quest for higher flow...

If it's a stock replacement then that explains why it doesn't have a venturi. You'll be fine with the w-body pump, it's a very common upgrade around here.

I just want to be sure I do this right the first time. I'm attaching pictures of the pump module I'm working with.

As you can see, there is no venturi feed coming from the top of the pump.

Can someone who understands this better than I do please explain how/why this stupid setup works?

I'm over all of this gm factory engineering crap. They have to make everything 3x as complicated as it needs to be. Why not just design a fuel tank that accepts a normal effing fuel pump?

What can I do with this setup? Where should I put the inlet for my aftermarket pump? I feel like I'm going to have fuel starvation issues either way....

You housing is the same as my 99, but your pump is different for sure.

I'll have to look at some old pics to answer more.

Okay, cool. What Did you mean your tank has a rubber surround? Like the tank is encased in rubber?

Just like the Racetronix setup. You can download the PDF for the installs off their website or look up the how tos on JBO.

Okay, I'm thoroughly confused. I cannot find a how-to on installing a pump in this module. Furthermore, nowhere on this module is there a provision to hook up the venturi tube, so I don't see how it could possibly be the same. Unless I'm just supposed to let the venturi tube dangle in the fill bucket? But that would be stupid, because there was no venturi tube on the factory setup, so why should I add one.... Is there anyone on here who has worked on a 95-98/99 fuel pump assembly?

Yes I did search, and I read through most of those. They are all concerning the newer style fuel pump assembly. I finally figured it out today, by going to advance auto parts and cross referencing part numbers. A 1999 and a 2000 with a steel tank lists one part #, while 1998 lists a completely different part #. I looked at a module for a 1998, and it is identical to the one I have. Read: NO VENTURI!

So obviously, what I have is a 1998/ early 1999 setup, which again, is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from a late 1999/2000 setup.

Believe me, if I had the newer style fuel pump module, I never would have created this post, because every time I post on here I just end up getting disgusted. All I get is the same tripe over and over again from people who think they know what they are talking about. Yes, I am fully capable of using the search feature, and no, I am not a moron and I do not appreciate being treated as such.

Once again, thank you for all your "Help"

Get the AEM or Aerometer Stealth pump. Neither has the Venturi port.

Mike Roofy posted a how to with the Areometer Stealth pump. It should be prefect for you since it doesn't have the venturi.

Sorry for the overreaction there. Perhaps I was a little out of line....

I got to thinking that perhaps the module I have in my hands is in fact a parts-store replacement module...... I found a listing on ebay for a replacement pump that is listed as a replacement for an AIRTEX assembly, and it has the dual inlets.

Looks like I'll be making another trip to the junkyard.
