i have one im my basement from my brothers 1.9 if you need measurements and such...

Any chance you can send it to Chris so he can test this theory for us?

It may not effect me any, but I like seeing this kind of custom work done, if not, at least attempted.

Thanks Chris for the info on the double roller setup, so what's the problem with filling the oilpan? And for the person who asked why not use the stock setup, I'm running the LG0 W41 topend (086 head, HO intake, W41 cams) setup with a turbo and those cams redline @ 7450 rpm, where the stock LD9's redline is 5800 rpm. Big difference, not to mention the stiffer valve springs the HO uses compared to the LD9.

Chris you wouldn't happen to have the timing chain housing for the double roller setup would you?

2.4 oil fill is on the timing chain housing, if your using the 2.3 timing chain housing on a 2.4 motor bye bye oil fill...
the 2.3 oil fill is up front and runs between the runners on the intake manifold.

^^^ and is actually a hole bored into the block right beside the oil filter location.

Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.

All 2.3 covers are the same. they did change gasket thickness with the chain for some reason though....

Keep in mind that alot of the forces produced by the stiffer valves springs stay within the cams and not sent back out the chain. Meaning when a set of springs are rebounding another set is dropping on the same shaft. Yes the lobe timing matters alot but looking at the HO cams there wont be much time if any where the cam is actually at any big torque angle without another lobe actuating taking alot of the springs stored energy on the rebound to help push the next set of springs down. I really dont think there is much additional force on the timing chain, except for starting, then there is for the stock setup. And also keep in mind spring resonance, as the rpm's increase the springs become easier and easier to depress. It's not like your requiring 2x the energy input from 5800 to get to 7450. That doesn't mean that at 7450 it requires less energy than at 5800 but it does mean that the springs vs. energy applied is not a linear relationship. So the energy input difference between 5800 and 6625(mid point betwen your numbers there) is greater than the required energy input difference between 6625 and 7450.

I'm pretty sure you've heard this before and will still do the double roller setup anyway tho......but I guess this is for those people who may believe you really do need the double roller.

the only thing i read about it that makes it "better" is that there is less friction.

Just what I read.

Thanks for all of the info guys, I guess for me it's a piece of mind thing, GM engineered th HO with the double roller setup for a reason, and I would guess reliability was the reason, based on the redline of the W41 cams. I would just feel better at 7450 rpm with a double roller chain and gears than a single that was designed for a 5800 rpm redline.

Stock 2.4 is limited to 6540 (or at least that is where both of mine stoped) not 5800. I have reved a 2.4 with some other upgrades to 7500 and not snapped the chain.

Wasn't the double roller chain just for 92' and earlier' engines? I thought ALL 92.5' and newer Quads were single roller.

I have no signiture

Yeah, the single roller chain is stought enough for the HO parts and can spin to 7800RPM from what I read(members' experiences) over on the Q4Forums. But I do know that Dale is looking for no excuses and I can't blame him for doing it without looking jealous.....lol. More power to ya!

92.11111111155566

after first quarter 92 it was ended.

Other things changed too.... but that was the biggest.

Josh, my W41 see's 7800 all the time, with the .450 cams in it, it saw... higher.

What is redicuous about it? Whats wrong with development and new ideas? You'll always be in the same place if you dont try new or different ideas.

What pistons are you using on your LD9 Dale Young? You do have a hybrid LD9 right? Valve relief or dished?

GMR has got nothing on this

DOHC Tuner I have custom Wiesco 8.5 forged pistons with deep valve reliefs from Karo at CarCustoms, by my calculations my static cr with a stock head gasket + 086 head = 10.3:1. But with the .074 cometic head gasket it should be about 9.3:1 with plenty of valve clearance, also I will look into the single roller timing chain setup as it may be easier to make work with the stock tensioner setup.
