The block and head assemblies are the same, except for the water outlet and head gasket. Most of the exteranals are different(water pump, intake manifold, brackets,etc..)

Since there was a question in here about the 2.2 engine i'm going to sort of reverse this, the 2.5 engine that was in the S 10 i'm thinking it was 87, 88, 89 somewhere in there was that the same one dodge chrysler used in their small cars. Also vice versa for the 2.2 or were they completely seperate engines because i know the dodge shadow in 87 used a 2.2 as did the dodge omni in several instances.

The 2.5 would be the Iron Duke engine, much different than the 2.2OHV

The factory HP ratings on the S10 2.2s was always a little higher, they have a more free flowing exhaust since truck emissions are not as strict

I doubt it, iron duke was known for its durability, nothing in the 80s by mopar resembles the word

GM 2.5 began life in '67 or '68. Chrysler 2.2 started life in early or mid '80s. Two different engines.

reason i ask is because i think the cc's were the same gms 2.5 was like 153 cc's wasn;t it and chryslers 2.5 was 153 also i thought, i think chryslers 2.2 was like 135 cc gm's i don't think was much further off.
