2001 2.4L LD9 - Tach SIgnal

OK, I've searched like crazy.

PIn 10, connector 2 at the PCM is what I need to use.

This is all anyone says about the subject and that's that.

I have never dealt with the PCM and I do not know how to do this. What connector? Pictures? Anyone have any further details than "Pin 10, connector 2"? I've done quite a bit of modification but never added a wire to the PCM, so any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind - figured it out.

Hah. Don't you hate it when people do that? Just kidding, I'll divulge what I discovered.

The PCM is the big silver box to the left of the OBD2 connector behind a big plastic piece above the clutch pedal/hood release area. It's got a connection going from it to the OBD2 port. It has two very long large harnesses plugged into it on the bottom. One is C1, the other is C2. We want to use C2.

I found that AutoZone surprisingly had PCM diagrams on their website: 2001 Cavalier 2.4L PCM Diagrams
Look for the: "Fig. C2 CONNECTOR ON 2.4l ENGINES". The colors of the wires you see versus the diagram will make it easy to identify which of the two big connectors are C2.

There is no wire in hole 10 of the connector C2.

I stuck a 20 gauge stranded wire as far into the hole 10 as I could, and then tightly cable tied it to a wire next to it to keep it in. Works perfect as the tach signal for my sequential shift light.

Boom. More information than any other thread/post on the subject. Enjoy.

Could use the pick wire from the ICM as well.

Isn't one on 99+ (Nope, it's not the pink wire, nor the white)
Hence the need for doing it at the PCM. Oh well, it works and I'm happy!

Ha, I know. Been busy doing other things, getting the Alero all refined, haven't driven it more than 1-2 times the last 2 years and now it's back to practically daily driver status.

OT can either of you guys share what the stock DFCO settings are in your tunes on a 2.4L? The oldest calibration I have is supposedly "stock" for the GMPP S/C kit but I feel like the "Enable VSS" and "Disable VSS" aren't normally 254 and 240, respectively. I've never had DFCO on my car it seems. Just working on how it always has a @!#$ty coastdown trying to figure out how to refine it finally.

My 99 has the pick wire.

I currently do not have hptuners installed on any of my computers, but I know my stock 99 tunes are on HPTuner's repository. Just look for my user name.

Do you have a lot of deceleration popping with no DFCO?

I have used the pink wire, but had issues on my shift light with it not always working, so I switched to the ECU and no issues.

I have both my stock GM reflash and stock file for my car. I will get you those numbers.

I'm just trying to analyze when exactly it is enabling. It appears as if (according to others in the tune repository) the GMPP reflash does in fact have the VSS enable at 254 mph. This would mean that at least that qualifier is an "or" statement, as DFCO clearly operates on my car when the "below this MAP kPa" and "above this RPM" are met.

I've always tuned my VE tables without doing anything to the DFCO beforehand and now that I'm back adjusting things for a few upgrades I'm just combing through everything to make sure I'm getting the right data from my histograms to apply to the VE tables properly. When I coast down I typically throw it in neutral, and the RPMs and AFR swing widely as things try to steady themselves out, so I'm looking to smooth out that area of driving. Could also be IACV related. Not a huge deal, just a comfort thing. Nature of the beast with big injectors and low pulsewidths at low RPM probably.

My stock 2001 Z24 N/A DFCO settings:

Enable RPM:4000
Disable RPM:3800
Enable MAP:47kpa
Disable MAP:50kpa
Enable VSS:21mph
Disable VSS:20mph

My stock 2001 Z24 GM reflash for the M45 DFCO settings:

Enable RPM:1600
Disable RPM:1500
Enable MAP:86kpa
Disable MAP:92kpa
Enable VSS:21mph
Disable VSS:20mph
