good god @!#$ my life... so the rear end in the van has always made this light 'whining' sound. i never thought much of it til i brought it in today to get the fluid checked out. its about a pint low. i was going to have them just flush it and be done with it but holy hell it was going to be $240!!!! apparently it takes this omgz special gm lubricant called 'versatrak' and its only available from GM at a whopping $30 a PINT.

i know the guys well since its the same place we take all the hertz cars (sioux city ford). so they let me go underneath it in the basement deal to look it all over, its got two leaky axle seals and two leaky axle boots back there as well. g'damn it!

and apparently upon researching this whining sound its an all too common issue with these damn gm versatrak AWD rear diff units. mine hasnt gotten to the 'bad' part yet where it moans going around corners. all i should have to do it change the fluid and it should be ok. ive heard of some dealerships claiming that fluid needs changed every other oil change which is beyond ridiculous so if someone didnt get that done on mine and it started to go low and whine then i would bet my left nut thats why they traded it in.

not to big of a deal to change the fluid, just a biotch since its so damned expensive. i need 4 pints and at $30 a piece, it sucks my ass.

Rather Quiet in here...

I decided to spend my extra paycheck in december on my car.....

Things I bought:

~ 150sq ft of B-Quiet Extreme Sound Dampening (Buytl Base, not Ashpalt)
~ 20sq ft of Second Skin Luxury Liner Pro
~ 30ft 1/0 Monster Power Wire (Big 3 Upgrade and Power to Amp)
~ 6 1/0 Stinger Ring terminals (24k gold)
~ 25 ft of Tech Flex Wire Management
~ 4 ft of heat shrink
~ PowerBass XA3000D 3000 Watt Monoblock amplifier
~ 12" TC Sounds D2 1000w Subwoofer
~ (2) Stinger SPV70 Batteries
~ Directed HD Radio Connect (For my Car Computer to have HD radio)
~ 6 LED IR backup camera (For my Car Computer)
~ Garmin Mobile PC (For Car Computer's GPS)
~ New Brushed Aluminunm e-brake handle
~ Redline Shift boot and E-brake boot (Geniue Italian Leather)
~ 40 12v 5mm Blue LEDs (Swapping out the Speedometer and the HVAC lights to blue)

I also have a co-worker whose husband does body work and lives locally that's going to shave my trunk lock for $250. Welding the plate in... no bondo.
I also rewired the entire car and ripped out the cheap non-insulated rca's. I made new MDF adapter plates for the doors because the plastic ones had gaps that didn't seal the door off.

I think I found a set of rims for the GTO.
http://www.gtoforum.com/f40/new-d-force-lightweight-race-street-wheel-packages-pfyc-com-22202/
Debating between black with polished lip and anthracite. Size will be 18x9. I'm also half ass looking for some drag radials and rims. Im still trying to soak up GTO related info and have spent all my free time researching on the forums.

So far since I got the car I have done the following mods:
-removed the DRL relay (HIDS sometimes flickered in daytime mode)
-bought a full set of chrome plated lugnuts to replace the factory lugnuts and plastic covers
-bought and returned a set of Husky all weather floor mats do to @!#$ty fitment and bought the Hexomat brand all weather floor mat
-had the 5% tint removed and 20% redone on the back three windows

I have done the following repairs:
-replaced a missing fuse so I have working interior lights
-reconnected the trunk light so it works (not sure why the previous went so far with the blacked out theme??)
-replaced the trunk struts
-adjusted the parking brake at the handle
-adjusted the parking brake at the wheels (the parking brake now works like the day it was new)

I still need to fix a few minor things like the shifter rattles, the engine covers the paint has come off and the steering wheel trim pieces have bubbles in them. All are very common GTO problems.

And lastly I don't remember who said this but I agree completely. Previous owners can burn in hell! I have spent way too much time undoing previous mods. Thank god this guy did not get as deep into the GTO as the previous owner of my evo did. I swear I'm a charity case for cars. They are always in better condition when they leave my hands then I got them.

As for the current owner of the evo. I fully expect to get a call that he blew the engine or T-case or wrapped it around a telephone pole. I think it is way more car than he can handle.

That is sad Wade. I really hope that you don't get that call. I loved that car. How are you liking the GTO so far, other than the stuff that you have had to take care of?

lol wade... im the same way. every little thing gets under my skin about a new to me car as well....

on a side note, god i hope ur getting the 5 spoke LTW5 rims and not those 500 spoke BMW wanna be ones!!!! the weight in the 17" is impressive... that is 3 pounds lighter than either of my forged 17" wheel combo's. although... if i put my bfg g-force tires on my velox wheels, it'd be about the same. for some reason those g-forces are about 3 pounds lighter than my dunlop direzza's. (each) (same size too)

Wow that sucks! How much did you pay for it? Wanna buy my Jeep grand Cherokee for $2000?

I payed $3,000 for it, but the transmission went out right before we got this 10" of snow. What a god damn waste!

Nah, I'll just tough it out. I need this money to go towards getting the engine in the Cavalier this spring. I have a feeling that I'll be needing a new transmission for that car as well. @!#$ Isuzu transmissions.

Doing a little research on the production numbers of my GTO. In 2006 there were 13,948 built. Out of the13,948 built 8,764 (62.83 were manuals. Out of the 13.948 built 3,974 (28.49 were metalic black. Out of the 13,948 built 10,930 (78.36 had the black interior. Out of the 13,948 built 6,905 (49.51 had the 18" rims. So that means out of 13,948 there were 1,124 (8.06 of my exact car built.

I wish the number for cavaliers was out there but it would be tough since there are so many variable in the cavalier regarding options.

I'm taking a lot of heat on the cobalt forums... i'm replacing my instrument cluster with a 12" TFT LCD screen and running Dashcommand off my car computer to have gauges like the new Lexus/Land Rover/mercedes etc.

And you are taking heat for that? That sounds like a pretty badass setup actually.
