PPG omni is alittle cheaper ... better then most paints you can buy but what you should look into is PPG Global or PPG 2000. Those paints are alot nicer!! Omni is the lower line of PPG paints. Nice color selection though, definetly a deep purple.

street cavi you took the words out of my mouth, there cant be that much of a difference in price in stepping up to a higher end paint. i am thinkin 100-200 for what i need and honestly for a little nicer grade paint that would be more than acceptable. pics unfortuantely guys will have to wait he didnt have a test spray or color chip i could take with me sorry

Omni is ppg's cheap line. It looks pretty nice, but probably won't last as many years as the upper base clear line deltron. I am not a big fan of omni clear , we used it at a used car dealer I worked for but that was almost 10 years ago so it may have changed since then, or was that nason select clear they were showing you. The deltron would probably be 3 times the price of omni. Expecially being a purple color if it has red in the mixing formula. I heard a rumor that the omni was the same paint as the detron but uses less mixing colors and has more binder and balancer so it is more transparent. Don't know if it is true or not. The biggest thing that sucks about omni is a lot of the colors are pretty transparent and you have to spray more coats to get them to cover your primer, sealer, or what ever your painting over. They also ain't as good for color match if you are not painting the whole car. But thats true of all the major paint companys cheaper lines. Limco, omni, and I imagine nason, (I've never used nasons basecoat). Carquest has a clear by western which is pretty cheap and lays out pretty nice. I also use Marhyde clear once in a while which isn't as thin as most of the other cheaper clears. Sorry I didn't get to help you out that saturday Jared. I hope you got your exhaust taken care of. I didn't read your email to late, and my dad stopped over unexpectadley and I had the fun of changing a starter for him at 8 in the morning. He was afraid to shut off his car and having it not start again. Spring is just around the corner if you still want me to finish up bodywork and paint your car. Hopefully things will be less hectic for me by then and won't be battling cold weather. I thought someone could get you paint at a discount, or did that fall through? I don't think you would have to buy the sealer. You should be alright painting over the factory paint, and the rest would be primed which basically would be the same as a sealer, except it would have to be sanded before paint, where as a sealer doesn't have to as long as you put your base over it within a certain time window. You would need a sealer if you were painting over a lacquer or un catalyzed enamel, but you should be fine painting over your factory base clear. Plus I think dark purple over your factory green would cover faster then the light grey. Omni's grey sealer is pretty light from what I remember.

no troy exhaust issue is taken care of. i am actually thinking of changing the color a little bit. what would be a step up from the omni that would give a better hold up down the road but go up to extremely much in the price. and yeah man i want you to finish it up you have patched it up great so far. i am going to run down to fleet flarm and pick up some more fiberglass to finish the underside of the hood and some urethane filler stuff to fix that little crack in the front bumper. is there a brand of ppg like a step above the omni?

I am only really familar with the omni and deltron for basecoat clearcoat in ppg. The omni base clear should last a good 5 years or more I am guessing. The deltron if all the recommended products are used should last a very long time, which is why bodyshops that are certified through ppg offer a lifetime warrenty on paint against peeling and fading and other stuff like that. As long as the tech sheets are followed and a good job is done prepping the car for paint, the deltron would last a very long time. They reccommend you don't mix products between companys, but I've done it alot. Most of the urethane base clears are pretty good today, even the cheaper lines, they last a lot longer and look nicer then the lacquer and single stage enamel they used in the old days. Its all on how much you want to fork out and you think you will still have the car twenty years down the road or never smuck it up and have to repaint. I always buy the cheap stuff myself because I am too poor to spend the money the upper lines cost nowadays, they have risen in cost so much since I first got into painting. I think the cheaper lines are out selling the upper lines by quite a bit. The omni should last quite a while, It is just the cheaper line of ppg and the deltron might have richer colors or brighter metallics and pearls or something. I've used omni quite a bit, every day when I worked for the car dealer. Basically ppg, dupont, and rm diamont all make quality paint and have been around for years and would use any of them and should be pretty comparable in price. House of kolors is also suppose to be quality paint and are more geared for custom, but I personally haven't used it yet. . A gallon of the omni would be plenty of paint for a small car like a cavy, even if it doesn't cover as quickly as the deltron. Once it is reduced you would have 2 gallons of paint, and takes about a quart-quart 1/2 to put a coat on the outside. I think deltron is the next step up in base/clear and global is above that but I am not positive. You would have to ask about prices because I don't have a price sheet for them. Basically the base is gonna give you the color and metallic or pearl and the clear is gonna give you depth and the gloss. For a daily driver that is taken care of, the omni is fine in my opinion, but some painters will tell you ohh thats crappy paint because its not the expensive stuff. My cavy was painted with omni and marhyde and quite a few people stopped in looked at it when I had it for sale and I never put an ad in the paper. I'm happy to hear you got your exhaust taken care of. Okay I'll shut up now and I am tired of typing.

You didn't pay attention to my kit because I don't have one. Its a bone stock Z24 (without sideskirts, I was too lazy to put them back on). I put my mushroom filter on the end of my s-tube for @!#$s and giggles, so thats why it was a bit loud.
