MnPass Lane
Sunday, May 15, 2005 8:04 PM
So MN has converted some carpool lanes into MnPass lanes.

Basically, the car pool lane that has always been reserved for motorcycles, buses, and obviously carpoolers, is now available for driving for those who wish to pay. It is still free and open for motorcycles, busses, and car poolers.

I have some questions if anyone knows answers... This is open for discussion also.

1) If you don't have a MnPass Electronic Device in your car, and you are in this lane, cops can pull you over. Well, what if you're legally carpooling, this becomes a great inconvenience.

2) What is legally considered car pooling?

I know I had mroe but I totally forgot...

well, i have taken car pool lane with another passenger many times in the Twin Cities, haven't had any problems yet. But for legality of it all, ask or call a cop. I woudl think that carpool would have to be having a passenger, but I'm not sure if its only certain times of the day (night, rush hour).

well in wisconsin, as far as i believe, car pool lanes are for any vehicle that has at least two people in it.

i beleive its the same here 2 or more people..

and cops will be equipped with devices to know if you have that MNpass device in your car, if you don't i think a cop will be able to tell if you have another passenger in your car so you wouldn't be pulled over

Man, if I lived in the cities I would love to have that electronic pass! But I'm from Bemidji, so I'll take any lane I want to around where I live!

I always thought the law for carpooling went one step further to say your passenger cannot be a member of ur family, but Im not sure...
