Anywhere but RSM? I'm not feeling the love.

We are competetive with pricing. I'm guessing that that's not the only issue?

please forgive the newbie question but what is a core charge???

Re: 62 mm TB

Your old/stock throttle body is the "core". They'll take it and bore it out if it's in good enough condition, and sell it again as whatever size they bore it out to. Same with starters, alternators, brake calipers, water pumps...they all get rebuilt and the part you take them is your "core".

If you hand them the part you're replacing when you buy your new part, usually they'll waive the core charge. If you return with the part you're replacing at a later date, you'll either get cash back or store credit (RSM).

And Craig...$250 is a pretty good price for a 62mm...can ya beat it? lol

so if i were to buy the 62 mm t/b from rsm for 280$ with a core charge of 150$, does that mean that the t/b will only cost me 130$ if i give them the old one?

Re: 62 mm TB

No - it means that unless you hand them a stock TB on the spot when you buy the 62mm TB, the cost to you is $280 + $150 = $430.... plus tax.

If you buy the 62mm TB from them, put it on your car, and then return the core to them, you don't get $150 back, you get a $150 store credit.

If you come in and hand me a TB, I will not charge core. Some people have just come in and changed it in the parking lot. Or we have installed ot for them.

I know it's a pain iin the a&^. but it is the best way we have figured out to deal with cores.

The store credit issue has certainly pissed a few people off. We do not make a great deal of money off TB's believe it or not. paying an experienced machinist to make them for us simply costs a fortune. If we tie that in with store credit when we receive the core return, we can essentially make a few bucks off the additional purchases to make it worth while at all.

Craig, you never answered my question about the price

Email me if you'd rather not post it here.

I think that is the biggest rip. no offence .. i mean atleast you guys are upfront about it...

I went into GM a while back to get a new alt. They quoted me a huge price for a new one, i said, are you guys going to rebuild it for that? they say and i quote "we no longer rebuild alt's. this price is for a new one.." so im like, i guess i need one! so i call them later that day thinking.. hey, why not have fun with it and rip it apart.. see how stuff works... the person informs me.. i am not allowed to take MY OWN stock alt back unless i pay for it! this is the first i heard of that... i assumed it was mine! it came in my car that i paid for... and i paid for the new alt..

They wont sell me a rebuilt alt cause they claim they dont do that anymore... but then they take my stock one to rebuild! then charge people for new ones!

MikeyB: We've discussed this before. Your dealer rips you off.

Go to Part Source or crappy tire or something and get a rebuilt one.

but this was the new nice dealer.... although thats how they work.... if you dont know bout cars, who will know the difference and who would complain!

We use the 2200 throttle body for the core of 2200. I suppose they are interchangeable. Never tried. They are definately not identicle.

Bill,
I emailed you from another account. Hope it worked.

Luis has helped me out a few times. A good guy to deal with for sure. Golden miles new shop is vry nice.

You are welcome to come in anytime. I will be working the GM booth at the Autoshow. I won't be in the office for some time.
