Legality of Air Bag Removal

So before everyone jumps on this post and starts say why would you want to remove your air bags are you retarded.

Basically it's my car it's my choice obviously if I going to run into insurance issues I may stray away from the idea of a fiberglass dash and new steering wheel, but I thought I would ask, I'm already going to run into issues with insurance in the spring but thats besides the point.

I know big poppa as well as a few others have done this ... maybe you can respond about issues you may have run into with insurance or the police.

Thanks

I asked this same question to a police officer, who took the time to look it up for me. Here's what he had to say.

Im not talking cutting springs... I have a full Koni/Dropzone suspension. and the airbags were removed to put the new steering wheel in.

Is this illegal?

Hey Style. I sent you an email at your personal email regarding the lowereing aspect. I forgot to mention the airbag thing. Unlike seat belts, airbags are not a manditory item in a vehicle. As they are a relatively "new" feature, (in a manner of speaking) not all vehicles have them therefore they cannot be regulated by legislature under the HTA. In other words. Enjoy the new steering wheel.

No where I could find under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act does it state that the removal of the air bag is illegal. It only states that installing rebuilt air bags is a no no... other than that... nothing about a professional tech removing it etc etc...

Let me know where you guys see the law that says it must be removed by a qualified person?

It doesnt have to be removed by a qualified person..... there are no laws on airbags, so there are no details like that.....
