WOMAN CRITICAL, STREET RACING MAY BE TO BLAME

Winnipeg Police have charged two 22 year old men in an accident which left a 39 year old woman in critical condition. Winnipeg Police say three vehicles were travelling side by side, westbound on Portage Avenue when one driver lost control, hitting the woman's car as she tried to turn onto Wallasey Street in St. James. CKY's Maralee Caruso shows you why police say street racing may have been involved.

Did anyone see what happened last night? I never bothered to go out last night (to cold and rainy), but I saw a couple of the cars on news and it was a pretty crazy accident, they are still looking for the third car involed (a black mustang with a racing strip). Pretty Crazy Sh!t

I heard she died, thats really sad I also heard that she was a mother to a young child

I think if the city would stop being a bunch of dumb a$$'s, and focus less on reducing old peoples bus fair and focus more on more important things like maybe building a drag strip in the city so people who want to race can have some where to do it besides the street. I remember that idea was proposed before but it got rejected, which I find very weird because all the city ever complains about is Sunday night and how something needs to be done to stop street racers, and I think the only way to reduce that problem is to build a drag strip in the city. Anyone else have an opinion please post I would love to hear your thoughts

2hot4u i completely agree.

couldn't believe it, my mother actually agreed with me too.

Its a hell of an idea, and certainly a huge money maker.

I think the city should jump on this right away (if they were smart that is)

will it ever get done? Who knows, but if incidents like this keep happening they're going to have to do something. I doubt it will be the positive solution we're all hoping for.

as stated, I completely agree. I'm glad gimil is considering doing a series next year to help draw drivers to the track.

you know, they were talking on the news about how the police are increasing their presence in street racing areas, where were they that night? it sure doesnt help that there are only 2 dozen or so patrol cars (not including unmarked) to monitor the entire city, that part of portage avenue (not that any other part is any less) is a popular spot for racing......as for doing sumthing about it, maybe they will do like everything else here in winnipeg and now that someone has died perhaps build that drag track or whatever else they have planned

Ya i know i dont have a pic or stats on my car, but whats the point till i can prove what i have done? the only flamed i wanna get is burgerking ;p

now the police think putting up more red light cams and photo vans will stop what happened.....nope, first reason, all that will do is make the races light to light...second, the photo trucks as easy to spot (jimmys, blazers, and astro vans) - they are always parked in obvious spots cuz they have to be....if they really wanna stop it, they need more patrol cars and build that drag strip they didnt wanna build.....

I can't say I agree with more patrol cars, the only reason for that is the cops in our city tend to go on these power trips and pull you over for any stupid reason, your tint is to dark, your lights are to bright, your exhuast is to loud, like really who really cares about crap like that. Also I love to street race, and yes I would be much happier if we had a drag strip because I would go there to race instead of the streets. I just think people need to be more carefull, like don't race on busy streets, don't race in residential areas, take it some where not many people go like the perimeter or like parklane (which is no long avalible due to our fine cops ). I love to race and all but I don't think its worth it at the expense of someones life. I think the idea of a drag strip in the city should diffently be proposed to city hall AGAIN, and hopefully this time they will do something about it.

a drag strip over by assiniboine downs would be nice... it would compliment nicely with the annual auto-x that happens at the old red river ex grounds

agreed, but let's hope if/when they do put up a strip, the don't charge or tax the hell out of the entry fees like they do everything else...
