And the Oscar for Best Drama in a Automotive Feature goes to...

The Florida J's!

Okay seriously, wtf? I vote that people that are acting up chill. If you weren't at the show, whether it was because you hate Orlando or were trapped under a giant pile of newspapers, then you missed out, no hard feelings. If you made it out to the show, thank you for making the time and effort and I hope you had a good time.

I'm wondering if eliminating the whole idea of classes and awards would make things more civilized around here. The point of the meet is not to show off how much better anyone's car is than another's, its all about meeting people, having a good time, and you learn alot from other people in the process. The car doesn't make the person, the person makes the car, remember that.

But anyways, if we still want to put on a winter meet, I'd be more than happy to get together with the other Tampa guys and put on a bbq, we've done it before and we can do it again much better.

what if we just say @!#$ it and not have anymore shows? cuz all it seems to be (year after year) is just bitching. everyone just make their own area shows and be done w/ it.

The FL J yearly event shouldn't be a "show". I believe the whole purpose of the yearly meet was for people to get togethier and have a good time hanging out and meeting new people/cars. The more you lean toward the show portion of this, and the more you drag GM into this, the more "showy" the theme will be. When you do this, it will discourage the average Joe from coming out and getting togethier. Why? "Well my car isn't show worthy and I'd rather not go get embarressed."

I personally did not come to the meet to win a trophy. Ask the few that hung around with me. I didn't even wash my car. I honestly didn't have anything to show, but for a few different reasons I came. I wanted to meet some of the people that were coming.

Instead of spending money on trophies how about do door prizes? I honestly enjoyed the handbag and the little handouts better than I would have a trophy. Also this way you don't have to listen to people complain about the judging. The main reason I did not want to judge was because of the future grumbling I knew would arise.

I will totally agree with John, a BBQ sounds great. This is a basic reitteration of what he has said, and it is funny, another JBO member and myself spoke of this just a week ago or so.

Just my other half cent.

I will say i enjoyed myself at the show this year dispite the bickering. I haven't been to the last two and it was nice to see some old faces. I really think if a BBQ or some other social event was organized for Saturday evening and people were able to hangout together i think all this would not been so bad.

I am not going to jump to conclusions. What do you mean by eliminating classes.

I have been trying to say not make it so much about a trophy, or whos car is better, but abotu the people.

Give trphies for longest drive, best primer, just fun stuff.
I also agree with Josh P aka Whore.

Eitherway you put it. It is still a show regardless of what you want to call the classes. Also regardless people will still complain even if it is more about the people. You can't please everyone

Yes you are right you can not please everyone. That is not the point.

Deji remember the first meet in Gainesville, how it was J-bodies showing normal people what can be done with a J-body?? We were just glad to be sitting next to another J, and cruising around as a group. We had that guy from Bama drive to it. We had fun at the track racing against each other.

If you bring GM in on this before you no it there will not be any J's there anymore.

Do not get me wrong I have nothing against GM, I have a good contact there, and they have helped me out a few times. (I have the first matching set of there carbon fiber look a like parts on my cars. Only matching set out at this time).

Yes it will still be a show, but lets not let it be a show about who is better, but what we are about.

I say we make the winter meet, exactly that just a meet for everyone to have fun at. The then do a Summer SHOW with the classes and trophies and stuff.

Re: The Florida J Show ... Again?
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 12:03 PM
Oh yeah and we could have flyers made for the show by the time the winter meet starts and people can hand them out in there areas.

I agree but as long a people are coming it won't be about who puts on the show it will be the people who come that will dictate the show. Like i said the group we had in gainesville was cool but now as a bigger group and people who have put a lot of time and money in their cars are going to want to have some recognition and they will complain about not winning. No matter who has the show, as i said if we had a group activity BBQ, dinner, bowling etcc.. that weekend a lot of us would not be having this conversation right now. Just that activity alone would have made it feel like it was a get to know each other type of deal and then may be a cruise hang out afterward.

Why can't we be like normal clubs and have "get togethiers"? If they want to get recognition and win trophies they need to go to a actually "show".

I know but you can't control who comes the meets. From now on the meet will not be like the first meets. We just need to do what we can to make it a relaxing a possible. I personally though things with the show were ok till people came back complaining. I had fun my wife had fun.
I watch shows on Speed TV and people who started shows etc.. as years go by and more people come and younger people get into it things won't be like how it was when it started.

Deji what you are not getting here, is we are nto a group of people with all different types of cars. We all have the same, and when you involve GM, or other car makes you take away from us, what we had, or have. It will be the Delta show, or maybe a Focus show, with 1 J body there. I guess I'm not a smart enough person to explain what I'm trying to say. Heck our first meet had close to the same number of cars as this meet (not trying to crack on the show), just making a point it was back in the day but had a decent number of cars, but trophies was not a big deal.

How this was orginally posted to bring GM small cars together, would take away from what we built, or put together over the years as J-bodies. It would be another GM small car bash, do we want that?

you guys want to start a new post in which we choose a location for the winter meet and start to plan it out that way we have plenty of notice and what not

Re: The Florida J Show ... Again?
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 1:34 PM
let me start by saying i am really talking about GM being involved in the show. That may just be a little to much because they may want to dictate what we want to do. I am just talking about the show in general.

I know you guys are probably all tired of hearing me blab about the Daytona meets, but what we had there worked perfectly. Just a big group of J-bodies getting together, having dinner, cruising down A1A and basically having fun.

Things didn't start falling apart until we tried to get all serious about it. What happenned is that we made it about the cars and the club...and not the people.

If you want J meets to be successful, give more people a reason to go. Not every J owner wants to build a show car. And as such, they may feel like they have no place in a car show. Planning things like BBQ's and cruises brings more people together because it's a more relaxed atmosphere with less emphasis on who has the most parts on their car and more emphasis on having fun with a group of people with common interests.

I think we need a couple polls first. One do we want a winter meet?
Two where to have the annual meet. And then go from there.

If I'm sponsoring it and having our products set up there (similar to what StreetLine did), don't I get to choose where it's at?
