Suggestion/Opinions FL-J Show
Monday, May 02, 2005 7:08 PM
Hey Everybody, if you been to a FL J show in the last couple of years you have probably seen or heard of me. I LOVE being at these shows and hope we can continue to do so for years to come. BUT, we do need to come to one realization, unfortantly the J-Body is about to be no more and if we want to survive we need to adapt. "Out with the old in with the new", as Deji put it in a separate post. I like the idea of having the Main FL Show in one location with a floating show in the Fall/Winter months, but I want to add my own two cents. LETS BLOW THE BIG ONE OFF THE FUGGING ROOF!!! Let's make the big show a GM FWD Show. With one think always remaining the same, let it be know that this show is and always will be the Birth Child of the FL-J Body's!!!

Now that being said I want everybody opinions, be them good, bad, or indifferent. SPEAK NOW!

If majority agree's I want us to go ahead and vote for the Location of the Big Show city wise thus giving these Crazed Individuals all the time they need to do it right and make it be know with plenty of time to kill!

Keep'm Smok'n,

I said it before and will say it again "ORLANDO" why well its central for everyone and we have the Race Rock that loves us. I just talked to the guy Phil today and thanked him for letting us be their and he said we would love to have you guys come back next year. So once again I say leave the big one in Orlando and make a winter one that would be south or mabye north and at them shows we tell the new comers all about the big orlando show. I am more then willing to do it and I have done this for two years back to back and this year was alot easier. Due to that i just added where I needed from last year like the judging. I for once got to seat back and enjoy the show for about hour and that right there was worth it all!!!

So Streetline is done for it again in April of 06'

I agree, the J-Bodies will eventually die down , but not away. GM is coming out with better "Sport Compacts" that will eventually be front and center. I wouldn't necessarily limit to FWD though. This idea might bring in a few older car fans. GM did have some sporty compacts that were RWD, V-8 Vegas, Monza Spiders, even the Chevy II/Novas(earlier models) were originally considered small/mid-size economy cars. How about the Chevette/V-6&8 conversions and the turbo charged 4's. It's not about the engine or performance, but any small GM car thats been personalized to someones tastes.
I not necessarily promoting the classics, but let's not forget the predecessors to the J's. Although the future will be the Beta platforms and other platforms that will be coming out, which will be where the emphasis will need to be.

As far as the Florida (GMSC?) Spring Show I think it should be fixed and by what I've been reading, Race Rock looked to be a good place. From just about everyone seemingly liking Race Rock, it's has an automotive theme and its centrally located in Florida, it gets my vote for location. I'm sure it suites their ideas of a family oriented automotive themed event.
For the Fall Show, moving it around would allow other areas to get some recognition and for those who can't make it to Orlando for what ever reason(who was that, that's wanted by Orlando PD?) to get a chance at making a show.

@ gonzo

...anyways all these ideas sound excellent. I like the idea of having two shows one fixed and one floating. Expanding the show to other small gm "sport compacts" is going to have to happen sometime soon so we might as well accept it. Also, the idea of raising money throughout the year for the show I think is a great idea. The slocala people and i did a little bit of fund-raising, id like to see other cities participate, have their own fund-raising events and stuff to help raise money for the show. The show might need some more organization in the coming years to make it larger, I don't know what really needs to be done to make it go more smoothly I'm sure Steve has a few ideas on that...maybe some kind of committee or something, that might not be the best idea, just a thought. I do hope that GM gets more involved with the show, that would be cool too.

organization and lack thereof in the florida j's is what has @!#$ it up ever since i got here. people just aren't serious and its a revolving door.

I agree it may be a revolving door. Having it is one location is an excellent idea. We don't have to have people argues about location who can host it and who is willing to host it. We know that Steve is willing to do it each year. With the show being in one location we can get sponsors. A sponsor does not want to help people out who bicker and can't decide on a location each year. One year the show location caused tension this way no tension we just know it is in Orlando every year. The floating is a good idea i am not sure how well attended that will be but it is a good idea.

Hopefully this will help give the Florida J's some organization and gain more attraction. As i said before i hated to tell people we have a show but i am not sure where it is going to be next year.

I will say i have enjoyed all the shows i have been to. Got to meet great guys like Chris W and others. I have been to three out of the six. The last three i didn't come because my was first priority.

I am all for it. Please guys be supportive we need people input

Keep it in Orlando but Keep it GM!!!

Re: Suggestion/Opinions FL-J Show

I think that keeping it Orlando at RaceRock sounds fine but as Chris and Deji mentioned we need to start deciding on this now..... do not wait till the last minute this way we can set a date and start promoting it now instead of 2 months prior to the show.

Like Moose mentioned I do not think that it would be a bad idea for all the different areas to step up and do some type of fund raising, have fun with it. This way we can add more classes and make it a bigger show.

I am also with Chris on the idea of just making it GM FWD because if not then we are just heading in the same direction as a Super Chevy Show.

Also just my own personal input, as I had mentioned prior to the show, people will need to pre-reg and make that commitment then that way there is a better idea as to how many people will be there and what classes there will need to be. If there will be cars there besides J's then we will need to know what they are.

I'm a newcomer when it comes to the J bash... I didn't make it this year but I will be there next year. From what I'm reading around here I am going to have to agree to keep it in one place every year I have never been to race rock, but everyone seems to like it so if were welcome lets keep it there... As for the floating show... Why not... Maybe we can attract some people that have no Idea about the j body following..Fund raising also makes a lot of sense, If your creative you could have a hell of a lot of fun while raising money. I work at best buy here in ocala, and sometimes we sponsor certain groups/orgs to get us a little advert..... Any way there's my $0.02

ok --- I would like to see a big show put on by us --- and chris i will say the best show yet was the ocala meet --

I think if you want a big showing you might want to open the show up to domestics though -- let dodge and ford come --

I think we should still rotate where the show is every year. A winter type show is not a bad idea.

As for making it for all GM cars not a bad idea, but maybe too early for that. We need people owning these other GM cars active with us before trying to add them. Why have a class is no one is there for it.

I also think it is too ealr yo plan next years meet.

i somewhat agree with that i think we need to start getting the other gm models and or dodge and ford ppl to hang with us first to see how we all get along be fore we just start invite them to a big show.

second i think the earlier we start planning the less we will have to do when it comes that time of the year. also haveing the second/ winter meet would not be a bad idea but then again we run into the part of planning it since most of us on here want to move that one around. i can see it working but we need to get the main meet settled first with the ppl who come to that before we start jumping on the second meet.

once again only my two cents

Once again just my personal opinion, I think that the "Big Show" should be limited to ONLY GM cars. There is no reason to have to open it up to everyone or else it would just be another car show. Especially if we are looking to get GM more involved do you think that "they" are going to show up if there are Fords and Dodges there, they are coming to see "their" cars not the others.

I guess this is just 2 cents more from me.

i think bringing in other makes and models is a bad idea.

the FL J Show is just that, the florida j's. i believe that we should stick to the j's only. seeing as j's are no longer made, perhaps we could bring in the new Cobalts (since they are the replacement to the J's).

bringing in other cars isnt bringing together "Florida J" owners in my opinion. just a bunch of random people who own nice cars, in which, then you lose your "spice", because its then just your average car show.

I like the idea of a second floating show in the winter, seeing as I like the idea of a floating show.

As for planning for next year, this year's show just finished, and all the ideas in this thread will be gone in a month. I agree it is way to early to plan this, since everyone will just forget/not care in a month. why? because thats just how the FL J's is.

I knew John would be against having the show in one place it was just a matter of time before he said anything. I think most agree that times must change. We have a good concensus on it being in Orlando. We want to make this show the best it can be and this will be it. I John tends to disagree with this but we need some change in order to grow we must change.

I forgot to say I think it should stay J's only and maybe in another year include Cobalts once there is a presence of them in FL. I do not think we should include other makes and models like ford, doedge etc..

I also think the second meet (if we have one) should be more of a cruise and cookout than a show. Simple. Start in one location and drive to another location taking fun roads etc... Then eat and be done.

The reason for having the annual meet in different locations is to see different things. From the turnout this year it shows having it in the same place is not best for turnout. (at no fault of anyones). Moving it to different to different locatons allows everyone a chance to travel to different areas, and see different things, also allows for people from other states to come as well ( depending on where it is), possibly allowing a bigger turnout.

Yeah i think agree is should remain a J-body show an yes include Cobalts next year. Ford dodge etc.. is taking away from what this show is really about. Really the turn out was because people prior engagements. Even if it was somewhere else they would not have come. And if it was somewhere else those who drove up that day would not have come so the show would have been smaller. If people are coming from another state then location is not going to matter because depending on where they are driving from it will still be a good distance.

i know John is going to fight on this one.
