Any interest in a J-Body track day in Gainesville?
Wednesday, May 04, 2005 8:42 PM
I've been setting up track days at the Gainesville Raceway road course for awhile now. I was just curious if there was enough interest in the Southeast section for me to hold one just for J-bodies?

The cost for a full day of track time would be around $100 per car and would be limited to 20 cars. This means plenty of seat time at a very reasonable cost. So, before I go too far into details...are there 20 people here interested enough to want to participate? If not, that's fine. If there's a few that are interested, but not many, I'll extend an invitation to you few on the next time I do an open event.

I'm sorry, I should re-iterate that this is for the ROAD COURSE, not the drag strip.

Maybe extend an invite to INTMO if we don't get enough people.

I would be interested, but at that price not many others will be. Probably have to include other cars, but sounds great!!!

Actually, $100 for 8 hours on a track is a VERY reasonable price. When most of the local autocross clubs (SCCA, MSCC, etc) have days at GIR. It's often $40 or $45 per person. And that's for only 3 laps. So....5 or 6 minutes of track time for $40-45 or At least an hour of actual track time for $100. The latter seems a bit more cost effective....but that's partially because I don't benefit from this in any way. The track costs $2000 per day to rent, and 20 cars at $100 each means I'm payin exactly the same as everyone else and don't keep a dime for myself. In fact, I usually lose money because I generally spring for pizzas and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Zach, As for inviting INTMO, it's something I would defenitely consider. A few of the INTMO guys are running at my June 4th event (Vikram, Robin, and Vijay). I would have no problem doing a joint JBO/INTMO track day.

I agree on this is a good deal, just stating a fact that most people are not going to pay that to run. Most including myself has never ran a auto cross style thing, and are not goig to want to spend 100.00 to learn. Thats all I meant.

Fair enough. Yeah, I suppose you're right. It is a pretty steep price if its something you've never done before. Maybe I could setup a half day event so people will pay less and get better idea of what it's like.

Scott, do you guys use cones? I should come out to a BMS event there sometime(like june 4-5). I think I saw that Brian was going to be there too. My piece of #$@^ should be running by then. I need to work on getting some race tires now.

Yeah, my BMS event is on June 4th. You're more than welcome to swing by and hang out. Maybe we'll even let you get a few laps in.

I doubt I'll have race tires by then and I would like to make my street tires last a long time.I would like to stop by and watch the activities though. Maybe I should bring a BBQ grill out and a big package of hot dogs if you guys are in need of noursihment.
