what does vvti do? Vtec opens valves further, from what i understand vvti just changes when they open.

the way VVT was explained to me a few yrs back, was that it was GM's version of VTec

vvti is a form of variable valve timing but with intelligence (thats what the i is) so its constantly changing valve timing. thats what ivtec is. so pretty much you shouldnt be able to tell its ever there. and like ricardo said gm has vvt only

vvt is not the same as vtec, vvt only phazes the exhaust cam(advancing or retarding cam timing... i think it advances?). dual vvt does intake and exhaust cam phazing and vtec changes lift and duration.

All ecotec vvt motors have cam phasers on intake and exhaust.Have 2 cam phasers,2 cam solenoids and two cam sensors. The phasers work with oil pressure and adjust timing.Nothing like vtec.
