New J body Owner, problems...
Tuesday, May 01, 2012 6:15 PM
I bought a 1992 Beretta to race at our local short track. The guy advertised it as the 2.2, but he let it be known the bottom end was bad (spun bearing). I bought a 1991 2.2 OHV at a salvage yard, to swap out the engine. After I drove 3 hours to pick up the car, it turns out it has a 2.3 quad 4.

Question now is, A: Can the 2.2 be swapped directly for the 2.3? and B: Even if it can, I am guessing I need a new ECU, probably wiring harness....

Sucks in Williamston

Sorry man, Berettas aren't jbodies. I'm not sure if the OHV will drop right in, but you will need the engine wiring harness and ECU regardless. Curious.. what model Beretta is it?

Oh, sorry, I thought Cavaliers and Berettas were the same frame. I am new to GM, but I hear the Chevy 2.2 OHV SMPFI is the best for UCAR racing (no DOHC, no quad 4s, no rotarys).
