FS:1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 (with mods + extras)
Thursday, July 08, 2010 5:37 PM
It's time to sell her. I don't keep my daily drivers very long and I am ready to move onto a truck/SUV for the work commute. This car has never let me down. I have replaced a few things since I purchased it last fall but most of the "mods" were done by previous owner. No issues there.

1990 Cavalier Z24 with the 3.1L and 3 speed autotragic trans. Power windows/locks. Cruise control. Delay wipers.

Engine:
Stock - new intake gaskets (metal), dist o-ring, spark plugs and 7mm wires, valve cover gaskets, always ran Valvoline Max Life and AC Delco filter, 3 yr old alternator and battery, runs fine.

Trans:
Stock 3 speed automatic - replaced summer 2002, fluid and filter change w/ new pan gasket summer 2005.

Suspension:
Eibach Pro Kit Springs.
KYB GR2 Shocks and Struts.
Energy Suspension Urethane Control Arm Bushings.
Energy Suspension Urethane Front Sway Bar End Links.
Energy Suspension Urethane Front Sway Bar Bushings.
Addco 1" Rear Sway Bar w/ Urethane Bushings.
New front wheel bearings will be installed prior to sale.

Wheels & Tires:
16" Wheels from 1996 Z24.
Bridgestone Potenza RE950 Tires .
14" Stock wheels & tires included for winter (repainted and clean!).
Both sets of wheels could use new tires sooner or later. They are completely drivable as is however.

Audio:
Pioneer DEH-1400 Head Unit.
10" Pioneer IMPP Woofers.
Sony XM 2501 Amp.
Aftermarket 6x9's stock 4x6's.

Misc:
remote start + keyless entry (locks are sticky and dosent always unlock first try).
Flowmater 40 series muffler with Borla tip. Best sounding exhaust ive ever heard.
All weather floor mats
20% Tint all around.
Extra complete set of Second Gen Phase 2 taillights.
Haynes and Factory Service Manuals.
LeBra brand car bra, only used hood part, rest is new in box.
Extra set of Urethane Control Arm and Sway Bar Bushings.
Paperwork for Maintenance.
GM factory sunroof bag.
I have stock suspension pieces if you want them.

The bad: Sunroof leaks. No headliner is in the vehicle currently. It never bothered me enough to fix it. Interior roof is covered in stickers. Previous owner sprayed expando foam stuff into the sunroof track to stop leaks.
Rockers have seen better days but are covered by side skirts so no real worries there.
Small rust forming on 1/4 panels near rear bumper. Still solid. Easy fix for any experienced body man.
Oil pressure gauge in cluster does not work. I have sensor in hand. Will be provided with purchase.
The car shows signs of repaint from previous owner, still no worries for any paint/body guy.

The good: strong 3.1L that dosent leak coolant! Intake manifold gaskets have been replaced with metal gaskets. Common problem with most GM 60* engines. Also the plastic endtank heater core was replaced with a metal endtank core.
New IAC valve, New knock sensor,
Will have brand new front wheel bearings installed prior to sale.
New A/C compressor installed. Will do leak test and recharge a/c before sale.

Its a 20 year old car so don't expect flawless. Although its the cleanest specimen I've seen around here!

Average MPG is 20-22 city and slightly higher for highway.

Link to my Flickr photo album. Exhaust wasn't installed yet

I can provide ANY pictures needed. Just ask away! I have nothing to hide. I want the buyer to know EXACTLY what they are getting.

I am open to trades but only for trucks/suvs. I am sick of having two lowered cars.

I have a price in mind but to keep the drama down I am going to request that you PM for pricing.

I"m seeing a possible restore here (though that might depend on price )

Interior looks great...how is the body? Or the bigger question-how` are the doors? Finding clean and mostly rust free doors are nearly impossible...

How many miles?

I've been considering a cav restore, so who knows...

I guess mileage is a good thing to put in my origional for sale post.. LOL. my bad.

About to turn over 166,000 miles. She is still really strong. The transmission had roughly 20,000 miles when it was installed by previous owner. I would say its safe to say trans has only 40-45,000 miles.

Doors have rust forming but solid. No holes currently. I can take pictures if needed. They should be very salvageable.

I 100% think this car is a great candidate for a restore project. Strut towers are all SOLID. All pieces are intact expect for the missing headliner issue. I really wish I could give it the attention it deserves but right now it would feel like I have 2 project cars and that's not gonna fly at this point in my life.

I have never removed the side skirts but the rockers would be the only "deal breaker" of any kind. I mean it is 20 years old and has seen atleast 17 years of michigan winters (owner before me stored it).

I am third owner also. Carfax if needed!

Nope..I wish it was mine....buddy found the pic for me. Guy in Cali owns it. My old 1st gen was that color, though.

She does look good though. 17 MI winters? Are you sure? You should have seen my wagon after 15....what a mess.....

I'm one of those very anal guys when it comes to body.....As long as I can fix it. Just not too much of those.....couldn't weld anything to save my life.

Which makes me glad my 04 has seen salt like...once...in nearly 7 years in MI. Still clean underneath. Already had two offers to buy it this year....not happening though.

The Z might just end up a garage queen....

Is that a factory grille? I thought all the 88-90 2nd gens came with the 4bar grille. If I had the cash I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Its factory as far as I know. I think Z's came with this grill and base had another.

The emblem used to be black with red border but resprayed it gunmetal when I resprayed the grill black.
