Nite from hell...
Friday, May 27, 2005 4:29 PM
Last night sucked a big one... at about 9:30 i left my house heading across VA Beach to meet up with a friend... i made the mistake of taking Rosemont to Holland to get to Independance and theBLVD... As i was making a left on to Holland from Rosemont, an unmarked cop was making a right from the opposite direction... putting him right behind me... he immeidately pulled me over. Problem #1: the clips on my glove box just broke... my insurance card and registration were locked in side....

The first thing he said to me was "I pulled you over for a number of things. First, you have your driver side tail light out.... Second your exhaust is illegal. Third... your license plate is in the window not strapped to the front bumper. Fourth... Have you altered the suspention to this in anyway (No Sir) You added a body kit, Is it lower than your stock bumper? Thats illegal. Fifth... Your tinting looks a little dark. Sixth... You have no doorhandles on your car... is there a way to enter the vehicle by touching it. Seventh... That spoiler is not stock and obstructs your view. and Eight. You modified your guages, and they emit blue, green, and red in to the car brightly.

I was like ... omg... im so f****ked

He makes me wait like 30 min... and is like "sir can you step out of the car please.... is there any weapons or drugs or anything i should know about in here...."

i was like... im getting arrested..... F***in great...

Then he was like... "You leave me with no leadway on the exhaust. Says here you had altered exhaust charged on you in April of 2004. And the charges were Null Processed... Heres what im going to do... if you get documentation saying that you put a factory muffler back on this vehicle... i will ask the judge to drop the charges. however with the prior, that will be hard... its up to the judge...

Next... im writing you this second ticket for your licenseplate. It must be securly fastined to your bumper. If you do this, and take a picture.... i will ask the judge to dimiss this charge..

Next... im writing you this third ticket for your inability to show proof of registration. Though i beleive you, and im not going to pull your tags... if you come to court with your registration that is current before this date, i will ask the judge to dimiss this charge

Next... im wiring you this fourth ticket for your inability to show insurance..... same thing.. however this one you have to come to court to... you cannot prepay this one.... "

Court day happens to be one of my class days.... my luck... i;ll have amidterm that day.....

So ya... four tickets.... on my way home ... at 12:30... my car shuts off at a stop sign... ... Will not start back up... without feathering the gas... doing that... the car makes this high pitched (wat originally sounded like metal on metal contact)... and the belt started smokin... ... when i first heard that sound and saw the smoke... before i saw the bits of chewed up belt... i thought OMG i just blew my motor

i call my AAA like company for a tow truck... explictly ask for a flat bed... they send a regular truck... at 2:00 AM.... so they have to go back and get a flat bed... at 3 AM they are back... toe me to my job, and by 4 oclock im home... at 6:50 im back up and heading to work...

Find out my alternator through a barring.... so i had to call browings to get a new 200 amp alternator made and shipped out to my job... then i had to get my hands on a new serp belt

Finally $180 later and a day with no sleep... (after i got off work at 5...) i put the new alternator in and new belt... and now shes driving normal again...

im tired....

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about....I spend about more time in VA then WV (since I work there) and I've def. been down that road many times.

i have a friend who has a highly modified mitsu mini truck who had his tags "yanked" by a state trooper (for airbags)changed his tags to "vasucks",until they got "yanked.knock on wood i ,ve only been stopped for having my monitor "5.6" "down " obstructing my view".dang suv's can have 15" monitor's down and not get pulled over.wtf.of course in some of the smaller area's in va i get the "stare down", like the cops are looking to see if anything "looks illegal".any who sorry you had a bad day

they actually gave me a ticket once for haveing a tassel off a graduation hat hanging from the rear view mirror, claimed it was obstucting my view but while he's writing me my ticket a car is sitting at the light with like 20 stuffed animals in the back window so i asked him about and he said that that was legal, lol what a load of monkey crap.

^^ That's because objects hanging from your rear view mirror are illegal in Virginia. It's a secondary violation, like the seat belt thing. But stuff can be sitting on your rear deck. We have dumb laws because we live in a dumb state.

Sorry about all the hassle you went through, Kyle. This is exactly I'm leaving this f'ed up "state" after college.
Like I said about your muffler last night, I'd just go the Magnaflow 4x9 XL route because it looks stock and they're quieter. And doing the/a swap would increase your chances of all four getting dismissed instead of just the three BS ones.

This is why I avoid virginia at all costs. All I need is for a trooper to pop my hood and I am going to jail for the night and they are taking my car. It would cost me more time and money than the car is worth to return it to stock.
I am pretty thankful of our local law enforcement between Anne Aroudle, Howard, PG and montgomery countyies; however, our state troopers are d*cks too usually. I want to move to another state.

1) Ok, can't get out of the taillight one, unless you can convince them that it JUST happened and that your new taillight was on order.

2) In VA, the law says that you cannot modify your exhaust to be louder than stock. It does not say that you can't modify it. Techcnically, they need to prove your exhaust is louder than stock, since this is america and you are innocent until THEY prove you guilty. But this IS america, and cops are lazy and politicians suck, so its on you to prove it really. Check this out:

Virginia Law 46.2.1049 wrote:
46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

No person shall drive and no owner of a motor vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make.

The term "exhaust system," as used in this section, means all the parts of a motor vehicle through which the exhaust passes after leaving the engine block.

Chambered pipes are not an effective muffling device to prevent excessive or unusual noise.

(Code 1950, § 46-305; 1952, c. 455; 1956, c. 651; 1958, c. 541, § 46.1-301; 1960, c. 120; 1970, c. 266; 1972, c. 66; 1989, c. 727.)

3) He got you on this one. I know somebody who got this ticket before and said that the license plate bracket was on order and that the shop will be putting it on in a few days. He got out of that one.

4) In VA, you CAN alter suspension. Your bumper rails cannot be lower than 14" however. but you CAN alter it. VA law 46.2.1063

5) Tinting in VA i believe can only be 50% on the front passenger windows and 35% on the others, nothing on the front windshield. Once again, you are innocent until proven guilty, and in my opinion, that means that HE needs to pull out the light meter to measure your windows. Check out VA law 46.2.1052 and 1053

6) No way to enter a car is illegal, unless, like he said, there is a button somewhere to pop the doors open.

7) He's right. VA law 46.2.1054 check it out

8) Turn your gauges off, or dim them, or something. He was just being picky at that point. I too hate cops like this guy, but there's nothing we can do about it.

Here's a link for you

VA Laws

That link will take you to the first suspension law I found. From there, you can just change the end of the url from 1063 to 1049 to get to the exhaust laws, etc etc

enjoy!

oh yeah, part of the suspension law 46.2.1063 says that the body may not come in contact w/ the ground. so the cop was still wrong about number 4

i just need to stay away from downtown Virginia Beach...

on a side note... the two hours i was sitting in a driveway right at the Indian River Road / Elbow Road intersection waiting for a tow... i didnt see one cop... they dont really come out to Pungo all that often.... and the majority of my trips i head out to Greenbriar in Chesapeake (which borders pungo in back roads) Chesapeake cops dont really mess with me... they go after mainstream imports... Honda or Acura Anything (besides acura luxury cars), and DSMs ... my friend was driving home from my house at about 3 AM... when he was on Butts Station Road, his radar detector started going off... so he slowed down to speed limit... then this cop flew by him, and he could tell the cop kept hitting him with the radar the whole time... so then the cop turned all his lights off (headlights and all) and u turned... trying to be shady, but my friend saw the reflectors when he turned around... the cop got up on his ass as he crossed over Kempsville to where the road becomes Greenbriar and turns in to two lanes, so he instantly got over, slowed down... got right next to the cop, and smilied at him...., then he pulled behind and stayed behind the cop till his turn...

All i know is in Newport News, the judge will read this part and tell you that their interpretation is that you have to have a STOCK exhaust or it is illegal. BAM you lost the case....sucks

imma prepay the exhaust ticket... and fight the other 4 (i also have a speeding 2 weeks earlier)... i think i have a pretty good case on the speeding... 52 in a 35 ... but all the other streets in the area are 45 or 55... and the cop was sitting before the 35 MPH sign... and i can get a calibration place to say that my speedometer is off by 8 or 9 miles (cant make it exact =P) ... anyway i rather get defective equipment than a moving violation... my insurance would @!#$ a brick of all these tickets counted towards it...
