FS: 1996 Cavalier w/ Ecotec Swap - $1,950
Tuesday, September 18, 2012 5:28 PM
Up for sale is my baby of many years, it's just been sitting around for over three years and I'm hoping someone one here will take it off my hands and keep it going. I've only posted it on here in hopes of a enthusiast picking it up instead of some mexican on craiglist. It's far from what it used to be since I parted it mostly out but it does still have a few mods. It also does have it's fair share of issues that come with it as well. I will list everything I can think of at this time and I will completely honest in doing so. I'm firm on the price, I'm not doing this for the money at all. I think this is a good price for a car that will last years. The car is located in Louisville, KY and it does not have insurance so I can not meet up.

1996 Chevy Cavalier -
178k on body, 60k on powertrain.

Mods -
RKSport Import Fighter Front Bumper
RKSport Type J side skirts and rear bumper
17" Exel TZ-10 wheels with 215/45/17 Hankook tires
Full 2.5" Dual exhaust with Magnaflow cat and muffler with dual vibrant tips
NWF 12" Brake swap
Short Ram Intake
Megan 2" Lowering springs ( brand new, not installed)
B&M Shiftplus
5 Speed Shifter Boot
Ractive Shifter
APC Steering Wheel
Billet Steering Wheel Adapter
Billet Tilt Wheel Knob
Sunfire GT Headliner
Z24 Black/Red Rear Bench
Z24 Black/Red Door Panels
Carbon Fiber Cluster Overlay
Professionally painted Black Roof
20% Tint all around with front stripe
Shaved Antenna
Clear Corner Lights
Smoked bumper lights
00-02 OEM Taillights
Pioneer Head unit with remote

Problems -
The biggest I'd say is the fact I lost the door keys, so a new lock set would have to be installed on the car ($40 on ebay). I still have the ignition key as it's different because of the eco swap.
Brake light is on/service light is on. Not sure why as this just came on since sitting around for so long.
There are dents and dings throughout the car.
The tires have some dry rot on them, not sure how good they will hold up.
Drivers door catches the fender when opening or closing, the skirts pull them together.
No reverse lights from when I had a shaved trunk and never bothered rewiring the reverse lights.
Only one speaker works for radio, never had front two after eco swap and one speaker in back blew out.
No AC, I deleted back when I was into speed and now I love my AC. I have all the AC stuff in a box in my attic but I'd imagine the compressor is shot.
Has old crappy front seats, got them when I sold my racing seats.
The aftermarket steering wheel hub was not fitting how I liked around the spine of the steering shaft so I put them OEM back on. The aftermarket steering wheel is included but not installed.
The trunk is swapped so it doesn't have the the lock and the emblems are still on there.
Car has sat for 3 years and it shows, really dirty and gross.

Pics of dash please, the upper part that cracks all the time, and the vent gauge thing.

Also rust spots would be appreciated, pics of spare tire well and underside.

Info on the donor vehicle from the swap too, same computer? year?

I should point out the car has a Automatic transmission, the pictures can be a bit misleading because of the shifter and shifter boot.

The dash is cracked like most J's these days, the vent gauge is cut out for a gauge. I had my wideband in there. It is also missing the cubby in the center console. Those two things at the junk yard are probably $2 each. I will attach pictures of those. There is no rust I could find on the car, it was repainted about 5-6 years ago and has mostly been garaged since then. I just took some pictures of the common rust spots and a video, they're not very good but I'll attach them. The rear rocker panels have no rust and i can't really get a good picture because of the skirts. The swap was from a 04 cav w/ 32k on it at the time. Everything from the 04 was swapped over, the entire powertrain, ecu, rack, gas tank, gas lines, heater core, entire dash and console. The eco swap in a pre 00 is no joke, you basically swap over everything. The odometer reads 60k because it's from the 04. I have a lot of photo's we took during the swap and if requested I'll send you a password to my photobucket so you can view all of them if you would like. I had a full thread on it on jbok but since the site died I lost all of it but still have the pics.

I'm interested. I've been looking for possible track cars. So far I've found overpriced shells overpriced rust buckets, and one car where it sounded like he put his silverware drawer in the oil pan... did I mention overpriced? haha.

I definitely would love to see pics of the build, but since its an auto, now you have me thinking on making this a DD. So far its exactly what I'm looking for -- a straight body with little to no rust. I'd ultimately end up gutting the interior with a custom dash down the road... along with a standalone and 5 speed swap... then beat it to hell and back, swap the motor with forged internals and keep on building... but since this is technically a nicer ride than my current.

If I purchased your car, I'm not sure what would be my daily and what would be my project. This leads to another question... any slipping or shifting issues?

PM me how to look at the build pictures, and then we can go from there.

There are no slipping or shifting issues. Honestly the car doesn't have any powertrain issues, the problems it does have are smaller things that I just don't have the time to mess with anymore. You can view my eco swap pictures here : http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/joeydabomb/Ecotec/ and the password is ecoswap

Very good deal IMO, might I know if the lock cylinders are original to the car a new key can be cut via the VIN, just need proof of ownership and a trip to the dealer.

Thanks Joe. I wasn't aware of that, if it doesn't sell that's probably the route I'll go.
