Show season coming up and getting ready to travel. I am curious where the radar detectors are illegal. I know that VA they are and MD they are legal. how about the other states?
PA is legal. The local cops can't use radar though so it only protects you from the state cops.
they are legal in EVERY state except for VA, and also on military bases. So unless your going through a military base or driving through VA, your golden.
The big deal is: don't get caught with it in PA. They will not give you ANY breaks if they see it...
And I wouldn't recommend one of those new police radar jammers... Not sure on their legality, tho. I'm sure your local Bear would not appreciate you using one! LOL

They are illegal in DC too...its either VA or DC that will actually make you run over your own radar detector
I use mine most of the time when I'm flyin down a highway or in unfamiliar territory however I'm sure Jb's right they prob will not give u any breaks if they pull u over and see it.
the one i used, it was a 120 dollar one from my store (radioshack) didnt do squat. the county cops here use something new that they wont detect. and i know, cuz i was pulled over doing 79 and he saw it, and told me they dont work anymore. i saw his gun, and it had me at 79 600 feet away. IMO, dont bother. just dont speed so much.

FCC regs state that it is legal to receive any and all radio signals... and guess what, radar is a radio signal, so with the exception of certain special regs concerning militaty bases and security matters, they are legal everywhere. The catch is depending on where you mount it, they can get you with an obstruction of view ticket if they have already pulled you over for something. And cops are sneaky, while my radar detector paid for itself over a few weeks of saving my stupid butt, it doesn't help you when the cop doesn't turn his radar on until its too late.

me radard detector has saved me a bunch of times, and i have recieved 2 tickets with it on...
newer cops use the "switch"... they can switch the radar on and off at will...
that means they sit there with it off, and hit you...
nothing you can do about it...
unless you pick up some signal while they are targeting other cars...
(sometimes you get lucky)
same goes for laser.. by the time you get a solid signal, you done.
sometimes you catch scatter from the cars ahead, but its less likely.
old timers leave the radar on all the time though...
AND, DONT STAB THE BRAKES
radar detectors are only a tool. you must use them as such...
a CB would also be a usefull tool

I got a nice one and its for radar and laser. I pick up cops behind trees and everything too so it all works good for me! I dont speed too much over the limit but sometimes I like to know where the cops are to get down to about 5-7 over.
my picks them up from a really good distance. Sometimes it makes me think i have a false postive untill i get way up the road and see the cop. Bascilly all the laser is for is to say, your @!#$ so take the next exit.

Thats called pop and most new radars will detect it.
DO not use a jammer. They are illegal and cops will figure out pretty quickly that you have one.

i used to have a radar detector in my cav, didnt really help me much made noise for no reason lol, now i just speed and wave to the cops
an then i get pulled over lol....
I got pulled over in p.a. doing 83mph and the cop let me go for speeding but, got me for the radar detector. He said it was illegal, I wasn't going to argue because the cost of the radar fine was much less than the speeding fine!!!

Cops do not use radar in philly, so its pointless to have one here. i forget what they use.

NH cops are now using laser. Time to get a jammer!
Local cops in PA use VASCAR. It measures your speed between two points. Radar detectors do not pick it up.
