Ok so here is some news form my racing experience this past weekend. I'm not very happy with the results but I'm going to work on it and see what I can do to improve.
First of all I'll start with my time: 14.5 @ 95 mph. Vehicle weight is 2910 (thanks to my heavy ass system and it looks like the blower added a good 40 lbs to the bag as well). My 0-60 is 5.5 seconds now.
So here is my experience. First of all I am desprately going to need some serious work on my launches. I'm experiencing 2.2 - 2.3 second 60' times. I'm having real trouble getting the car to launch on these horrible tires. I tried lowering the pressure down to 18 psi in the front and I think it is to low because the rim is spinning inside the tire and then you can feel I lose a lot of power on the top end. So next time I'm going to try upping it to about 22 psi and see what happens. It will be a ltitle game until I figure it out. Plus I'm going to try putting some more air in the rear tires. I was only on 32 psi in the back maybe I'll try 38 psi next time.
Second of all these brakes are no good for these speeds and my weight. I'm having serious trouble attempting to stop in time. I can obviously make it by the last exit. The second exit is difficult to make but sometimes can pull it off. I have to use engine braking plus the breaks to slow me down and you can feel the car pulling hard because it isn't enough to stop me.
I have three things that I need to do as well:
- Most importantly I need to get the aftercooler hooked up. I talked to a guy with a GTP and he informed me that with out his after cooler working it affected his time by almost one full second. Now I don't expect it to gain me a full second but I'm sure it will help keep my times more steady plus keep the car more reliable. adf
- I need to hook up a boost gauge. There are two things on my mind right now. First of all if you calculate out the change in horsepower based on weight, mph, distance, and time my car comes out to be approximately 210 hp at the crank, and then if you calculate that into a blower gain it because only about 7 or 8 psi. The other thing that is on my mind which fits more likely to what I am experiencing behind the wheel. You can hear the supercharger when the car is pulling. But I am experiencing the sound for a brief moment through second gear then it dies out, and in third and fourth gear there is nothing it just feels stock. So I wonder if the bypass valve for some reason is preventing me from boosting. Which if that is true people at the track showed me some tricks to reduce how often the bypass valve kicks in. But I don't want to mess with it until I have a boost gauge and know for a fact what is going on here.
- Finally and this is just a little thing. The car was pulling extremely hard when I first picked it up. I had used a mixture of half a tank of regular, Some Octane booster that increases by like 6 octane or something like that, and a half a tank of Premium. Plus it also helped that it as 25 degrees outside. At this time when I was running all of this I was next to a WS6 and it may have been fake badged, but even a standard firebird I never should have been able to pull away from him so strongly. By the sound though it definatly was not a V6. So one of the things that was suggested to me was to change the gas that I use. I was told to start using Sunoco 94 and that people heard rumors of gas stations mixing their gas to make more of a profit. Well yesterday I got in contact with my Uncle who has a friend that can actually seperate the fuel and determine true octane and if anything else is in it. Well we pulled some fuel from my tank. Shocking I found there was water mixture in there and he said it also wasn't 93 octane that it was closer to 91 octane. So I'm not sure how much of a difference fuel can make but that was a thought to change out my fuel.
I'm a bit upset right now because the advertisement and all the write up is that this is supposed to be an 11 psi kit, and I'm not experiencing 11 psi increases. But the boost gauge will prove this or not. The other reason why I'm upset was because I gave strict instructions while the dealer had my car to make sure the aftercooler was installed. After closer inspection and the wonderful temperatures we have had lately I noticed it was just plugged and never actually hooked up.
The only plus side that is preventing me from losing my mind is that I never realized how many cars came to the track and didn't run 14.5 or better so at least I felt good beating out a bunch of cars. But as of right now for how much this kit costs I can not validate it's cost vs performance gain.
Wish me luck the next time I go to the track which won't be until April. I'll try to see though if I can take care of all three of these items before the Jersey J meet.
