Cheer up Mandy.

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.

well the car is fixed. it's on one stock strut for now, we're gonna contact gravana jim and see what the deal is. the coilover was almost salvagable except the threads were damaged pretty crappily. so the car is a teensy bit lop sided for maybe a week. but toby's ok and mommy's happy.

pictures later, pj will post them.

alright guys so here's the story

I got to mandys and saw the car for the first time.. it looked a LOT worse in person...

Oh yea sick camber...

That bolt should be straight.. this is no good

Finally up on the jack... Oh boy... lets get the wheel off

That USED to be a fender liner

Wheel off, same angle... only takes a few seconds for the tire to burn thru the plastic.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the failure... coilover seperation

Some monkey came and stole mandys lip when we weren't looking (I managed to get this picture of him tho.. its shawn btw)

The damage a little closer

closer still...

top strut rod was bent

threads damaged from impact with inside fender wall

Threads damaged from impacting steering knuckle

close up of the same

the peice that connects from the knuckle to the coilover bottom also has damaged threads

same

same again.. three places in a triangle formation damaged

stock strut donated from the skwirl in place

car back on its feet by 730pm.. as predicted by yours truly

tomorrow we go thru the process of getting a new coilover from gravana. everything will be back 100% before you know it.

and btw the car sits relatively level, and its difficult to know that only one corner is stock.

we took it for a spin and altho crippled, toby is ready to speed walk, but not run around town for mandy to work and such.

wait, so it was just the coilover, no control arm failure (why i'm posting this i don't know because pj will be at work to explain it to me in like 20 minutes, but whatever).... you had better not pay gravana a red cent for a new one, they should be replacing that on their own damn dime...

sorry to hear about the damage mandy. so what exactly caused the coilover to come apart like that? did it just twist itself right out of the base? now i'm worried about mine, granted i don't have an uber fast car or anything like mandy, but wow. thats not supposed to happen. i definitely wouldn't be paying gravana a cent for a replacement. that should be free of charge.

Re: Jersey J's May Meet (beat you festa!)

well, we had the bottom into the threads maybe about an inch, an inch and a half at the most.

that coilover was always binding, so i'm assuming a fraction of a turn by a fractiion of a turn it was just maybe loosening or whatever, and then launching the crap out of it all the time, just ...put it on its last thread, literally.

its a good product I didnt' insall it correctly and set it up properly. we were missing a peice and I made a replacement and I think that had to do with the problem

I think the coilover ended up backing out about half way (half an inch) and then the drag racing just took it the rest of the way apart.

needless to say, mandys car is going to be lower in the front now since we're going to engage about 2-2.5" of thread this time and lock the F out of it.

plus with the replacement coilover, we're getting the peice we were missing.

It was my neglegence that caused the failure, not the coilover.

i think we have a mandatory coilover inspection before track days from now on though

good idea jay

the whole thing could have been prevented if we would have checked them out as it would have been pretty obvious the coil was backing out

oh well, like i said its my fault but Jim is being gracious enough to work with mandy and I on the cost of a replacement (in other words hes gonna cut us a deal)

the gravana coilovers are still the best set up available for the Jbody IMO and I will upgrade to them and get rid of my prostreets as soon as I have the spare cash (and get tired of spitting out the fillings that keep getting knocked out of my teeth everytime i go over a rock)

pj & mandy , make sure you get the pics i sent gravana on the way they should be asembled

it looks to me like something else was missing , there was a change in the 00-05 mounts , it was a different nut , and a spacer

some of the 00-05 had a small nut and a spacer , and some had a nut with the spacer built into it , and from the looks of her's , she might have had the nut with the spacer built in

so it leaves a large gap

Ok so interesting enough we didn't plan a meet yet. Is it finalized is everyone satisfied with may 27th? If so I don't know what time I will be there. PJ and Jeff will have to keep everything together until I show up.
