NE1 have Pass side Sunfire fender they don't need?
Thursday, May 05, 2005 2:45 PM
Just like the title says. I have a 95 GT, and somehow my pass side fender split right in the wheel well and has a nice dent. Considering my fenders are supporting a good bit of the weight for the Streetfire front... I need a new one. Just wondering if anyone got aftermarket fenders and has a stock one laying around somewhere collecting dust or something?? Thanks in advance!

That seems to be a comon problem with that front. I never knew how heavy it actually was until we had one in the shop. Cracked on both sides.

Fiberglass aftermarket fenders will not hold and support the weight of the urethane street fire front... thanks for the idea though...

Oh... it's not a huge hurry for the fender... but it would be greatly appreciated when ever the spare fender/fenders are ready. Thanks guys!!!

do you have the crush guard (honeycomb lookin piece) on the front of the car. most bumpers require trimming of this piece, which supports the weight of the bumper.

if you dont have this, then that could be the problem.

thats the part that should be bearing most the weight.

I had to cut it off with the old bumper totally.

true....

unless it was a poorly designed bumper that part shouldnt have been completely removed.

it should be trimmed down, cause it offers support for the bumper to sit on. similar to how hubcentric rings offers a "seat" for the wheels to sit on the hub to take the stress off of the lug nuts holding up the entire wheel and taking the force from bumps from driving daily.

same goes for fenders, the front crush support is to be trimmed and used to hold up the bumper, even on aftermarket bumpers, so that the fenders arent the only thing holding the bumper up against gravity.

i had to do the same thing with the rksport bumper, and also on B3s car when he had the old fiberglass bumper.

trimming it takes extra time, but a bumper shouldnt just be flappin on by a few bolts.
you may need to visit a junk yard and get one, its around 5$, trim it then bolt of rivet it on.

Yah, you are going to need to go get a new absorber. Trim it down and shove the bumper onto it. Trim as little as possible. The one I have in the shop is trimmed as little as possible and it still happens. Think about it. There is only like 2 bolts that hold the front up. The bolts under the hood area don't do anything but keeping the top part it in place. The absorber is not tottally fixed onto the reinforcement so it is still gonna move.
