Wrecked the 05 and I have a j2000 ,has anyone soehorned a ecotec in a 1st gen , I thought I sen one on here or should I just sell the parts? Sad I really liked that sunfire .

There was someone on v6z24.com that swap a ld9 I believe. Just swap the entire wiring harness for the car. From headlight to tail light. Or you could try to piggyback them with your stock ecu. If it was me I would swap everything over.




On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

Yes, there has been one ECOTEC swapped into a 1st gen. Mounts and such were easy, the wiring was the worst part. I disagree with swapping or combining the entire harness. The 1st and 2nd gen body harness is completely separate from the engine harness, and you would save all sorts of headaches, time and effort to simply use a Megasquirt to run it, since there would be no ALDL connection required for any type of emissions you have (based on car body year). Trying to stuff an entire 3rd gen BCM, PCM and harness in is just too much work.

well thats cool any one got any pics on how they swaped, the ecotec in and did they use a auto trans or can i use my 5speed ?

I was lying when I said 1st gen, but the 2nd gen front unibody is the same-

No, you can't use your trans. It's a totally different bolt pattern. You will need to swap the entire drivetrain over.

Evil, The short list:
Motor 05 eco Trans 05 Eco
throttle cable Eco???? (dont recall)
axels are GM, dont recall what now worked for lengths,
coils and ign module are 2.2 ohv
ecu: Megasquirt. all stock guages retained and working
i purchased the trans mounts (body side) from TTR back in the day when they made the weld in ones for a 5spd conversion
rear trans mount is custom nothing fit,
Motor mount is stock, custom Dogbone location,
Frame had to be notched to clear the tranmission, and the linkages,
waterneck had to be modified as well
custom lines and adaptors for PS pump, Fuel lines, ect......
GM 3.4 Camaro knock sensor circut (if i recall)

there was more but i dont recally recall, its been a good what 5 years?



the boost aspect became a whole new headache lol.....

thanks for the info guys , I will be starting soon as i get the 83j home(its at the parents house under a tarp )I really cant wait lol . OH and i will post pics later guys .........

And this pretty much just talked me out of doing this in the first gen I was looking at.
