The R-12 leaked out of the Cavalier's system after sitting idle for 3 years. Looks like I'm going to find the leak, replace the O-Rings and convert the system to 134a. Any advice? How much would a shop charge to do it all for me? Just getting a feeler. It gets way too hot & humd here to go without it...even if it is a ragtop.

I did mine about two years ago cost 30.00 for the kit easy to do,u just change the low and high side ports.Next I had my step dad vacumm down the system with some old gauges and a custom made vacumm system.The culprit ws the two O-RINGS at the compressor were shot there fore leaking.I figure if u buy the kit which includes everything u will need.This would be less than buying the kit from the shop plus labor cos.They r about 34 bux at walmart and target advance and auto zone are a little higher but not much.
Thanks Ron. Harbor Freight sells a vacuum pump. I might pick it up.

i bought that kit for my Grand Prix worked good, theres no need to change any parts on the old system (ex. accumulator, compressor) because the new oil is designed to mix with the old R-12 oil that way theres no jelly that forms. It also comes with a leak stopper which helps swell up old dried up gaskets.

I did it in my 84, lasted for 2 days.
That AC compressor has to come out in favor of a bigger turbo though, so does anybody need one?
