Wishing all you guys a happy and safe holiday weekend. Nothing like no work, lots of sunshine, a case of your favorite beverage, and some detailing projects.

Hope you enjoy the 4th.

Speaking of projects my rear end upgrade restoration is making progress.I have just about got most of the small parts painted.I have a new muffler as well and if all goes well monday I am sandblasting the rear axle.I will not do brake cables or drums yet. That's part of my brake project that will follow.SO maybe in a couple of days or a wk it will be done and back on on 4whls.Thankx for the happy 4th thing,I sure have put some time in detailing on my old type 10 this wkend.

Ron- good luck with the rear end rebuild. I'm sure your Type-10 is coming right along. Nothing like taking one piece at a time and making it better.

update sandblasted some today and what a mess at least I was sand all over me.I did some sandpaper action and some wire brush action with my cordless black and decker impact gun and it's making progress.I still need to do alot of sanding by hand in those hard to reach areas. But hopefully by the weekend I will have that done and primer is next then some NEW paint.Woo hoo.

Great PIc Daryl-

Too bad that SCX is not in it. I will post a garage pic once my bird is back from the paint booth, it looks pretty crappy right now with no trim on it.

We have 5 cars with 2 drivers. All run. I will admit, I have a car problem.

Thanks Paul. Hope you get your J back into shape. I know how it goes...

The SCX is now in the garage of my parent's house while my youngest brother works on it. He's going to be "taking good care of it" for the next few years. I just ran out of room, time, and money. Its all in the family.

[IMG] Here is the b4 pic [IMG] The after pic new undercoating and silicone in the fender weld seems, and at the upper mount for the shock,U may not see it but it's done.[IMG]More of what's happen to improve my car.[IMG] A pic of the whole rear end complete minus the wheels.SWEEEEEEEEEET[IMG] Here is a up close pic to show the true time I took to get it RIGHT!!!!!!!!. I have worked my azz off to get this done and it's CHERRY,OH my I DO LOVE MY CAR. And to answer ur ? D the upper mount areas were good the lower one side the point that the rubber boot goes on was rusted completely rusted away ,I fixed that with quick steel and touched up on the other to prevent it from doing the same prior to me primering it and paint..I used normal primer and krylon paint semi-flat black and EVERY screw and nut, bolt was stripped with acid and primed and painted.I did remove the gas tank cover and cleaned it ALL,IT's all NEWWWWW.

Ron, Looks good brother. I dig it!

Your work inspired me to paint up my rear axle and wheel wells last weekend.
Krylon semi-flat black is perfect! It looks just like GM chassis paint, its cheap, and it holds up!

Keep her clean!

I have more pics and prolly will post them soon,I really worked hard to get it back to a factory look and granted it took a couple of weeks it's well worth it.The new undercoating and silicone in the seems really looks sweet.I will show some more up close pics so it can be seen the time and work that went into this project.Thanx for the pat on the back I do appreciate it.

[IMG] Better up close pics enjoy,[IMG] Some more,I will take some up close pics of things I may have not shown to illustrate the little things. As stated in the previous post I took alot of time to tape everything off and do it right so, that way I want have a half az job and be disappointed after all the time it took.Oh by the way that's a new cherry bomb turbo muffler and new clamps and it does have a stainless tip as well.I chose to go with a single tip versus dual since its a high flow muffler.

I am now saving my money for some NEW monroe quickstruts, these include a new mount, bearing, spring and strut all in ONE.This is offered at most stores like advance auto for around 170.00 plus tax.So as soon as the flow of cash comes around the front end components are soon to be matching the rear not to mention the smoooooth ride and better handling. The car actually sits a little different now a lil higher in the rear with the new springs and shocks and rides dreamy.I love doing all the work myself and the satisfaction it was done to my standard,no pun intended.

Ron- do those struts cost $170 a piece? Yowzers.

I did Monroe struts on my car from Napa for like $30 a piece or so about 2 years ago. Mounts were about the same cost if I remember correctly. I guess if you add up the cost of all the components it wouldn't be too bad of a deal. And you don't have to mess with a strut compressor and that fun stuff!

Looks good, man. Nice and clean now. Did you find your plastic stamp on the axle (has codes on it and such) on the driver's side near the brake backing plate? Mine was pink, and I have cleaned it all up, but can't make out what the codes mean. I've seen blue and red ones in the junkyards here.

I'm glad you're taking pics of it all because we need good write-ups and pictures of repairs. Have a beer on me, and keep up the good work!

[IMG] This is the tag ur talking about, I will go on a hunch that its the part number for the axle and has the date of july punched out and the year of 1985 and the shift it was done which was 2nd for mine.

Just a idea bit why don't we make a post separate from ALL others for everyone to post pics and details of upgrades and before and after off there projects. That way we people come to the first gen forum and want to see someone's hard work and real improvements it's on that versus having to search old post or look for a specific one that may not be really associated with a project.I think it should be called the first gen projects and details included post .Please add or change U all we really need to do this in order for those who just bcome 1st gen owners and want to see what fun we already are having and to look forward too.
