As far as the actual turbo the 1.8 uses a T2, the 2.0 a T25, the T25 is watercooled and a little bigger, the T2 is smaller and only oil cooled. The 1.8 also uses lower flow injectors, other than that and the obvious of displacement that's about it that I know of.

The 1.8 dosent have forged pistons and the tranny for it istnt the getrag, the best thing you'll ever find attached to it from the factory is a isuzu (I think) 4 speed manual. I always wanted a 4 speed but it would kill gas mileage and it isnt a very strong tranny.

so how many lbs of boost did it run without forged pistons

I'm not sure what the 1.8 ran factory, but with out the forged pistons I wouldnt push it to much past what ever stock was, I know if you turbo a NA 2.0 and dont change pistons it will last quite a while on stock boost but as soon as you start screwing with it you're done.

stock boost on a 2.0 is 7-9 psi so you think thats what it is on a 1.8

But the 1.8 is smaller motor, smaller turbo, injectors flow less and dosent have the pistons like we were talking about so it would surprise me if it ran less boost. Someone on here will know, I'm not much of a first gen guy, I mostly know the 2.0

opps I meant to say it "would'nt" surprise me, not it would, lol
Theres a post in here somewere that I started in this forum asking about teh diffrences, I was mostly looking into using the 4 speed trans and I was really hoping they had forged pistons cause I had acess to a 1.8 turbo a while back and was hoping to get all the parts I needed from it but all the good stuff I was after was diffrent.

Tyrin...... now do you really think GM would build a turbo engine that didn't have forged pistons? Can you imagine the number of warranty claims they would have if they didn't? Both the 1.8 and 2.0 Turbo engines had forged pistons.

The 2.0 Turbo engines, are first gen engines. They were introduced in 1987.

1.8 Turbo engines didn't have a 4 speed Isuzu tranny, they used the Muncie 4 speed tranny or the TH-125 auto box.

I was told before in a previous thread that they werent forged, I'll find the link so I can double check now, I hope there not forged cause that would suck cause I turned down a set of forged pistons then
It would make sence though for the turbo motors to have forged pistons. Wasnt sure on the muncie thing thats why I said "isuzu, I THINK" Just wasnt 100% sure, thanks for clearing that up though.
motorman337, Do you have any idea how much boost a 1.8 runs factory?

Tyrin.... depending on the shape the wastegates in, it should be 6-8 psi without any tweaking.
