I was wondering if anyone knows if a 2nd gen top will work on a first gen?

I don't know for sure because I never owned or worked on a 2nd gen ragtop, but everything I've read shows tops are different for 83-87 and 88-94 convertibles.

Let me know if you need a boot for your car. I have a good used dark blue boot (stiching is loose along 2 inches in the back but its easily fixed). No tears or rips. Came from an 87 RS convertible just like mine.

Actually I do need one, but my interior is grey, and I need a top first. What do you want for it anyways? e-mail me if you'd prefer ski_dooman19@hotmail.com

No, a second gen top will not fit a first gen, they are very different. You can take a LATER 2nd gen with the glass rear window, and install it on a EARLIER 2nd gen as a upgrade, but the two gens are very different and incompatible.

However, there is a much better 1st gen top that you can get that is a direct replacement. See my profile for links to it, but it's made by EZ-ON auto tops. It allows for a glass rear window! You have to buy their top and window cause both are special, but I'm on my second, and they're great! Unfortunatly someone decided cutting my top was the easiet way into my car last year to steal my LCD widescreen, so that's why I'm on my second. It's a great peice though, I also ahve their well liner.

The glass rear window is about 2" smaller on all sides then the plastic, but the visiblity THRU it I think makes up for that. Also, you must unzip the top of the glass and lower it into the well BEFORE puttin the top all the way down - the space is too smal to have it lower with the top. But again, I think this is worth it!

Any qualified shop should be able to mount it, though I did it myself (not for the faint of heart, it's a PITA). If you do want to do it yourself - get a GM service manual from teh library, it outlines the process in detail, and I couldnt' have done it without it (I actually own three of these books so I could also scan it but I would reccomend getting it out....). Also pay careful attention to the removal.

I suppose I could post morepictures of my top if you are intrested.

Well unfortunatly the bird is knocking, very bad. So the top is gonna have to wait a bit.

Protonus..... the link no longer works. I also wanted to let you know your profile is awsome very detailed and helpful. I'll def. be making that a reference in my favorites

Protonus- Would you mind either posting or emailing me some shots of your top and/or install? If not, no big deal.
