Hi, I am Jake, I have a few cars, but my 82 J2000 4 door is my mostly daily driver. It is a 1.8 OHV carburated with a automatic tranny. It has about 66,000 miles on it right now, and minimal rust. It was a granny car, than a back up car for someone, and now is mine. I have had it for a few months now, and the only thing it needed, other than maintenance and a tune up, was the funky carb mount with the heater built into it, got a replacement at a GM dealer. I also put cheep 13" tires on it too. I also added a stereo, and tinted the windows. I would like to put wider wheels and tires on it in the future, and would be happy with 14" or 15".
My question is this, what 5 speed trannys will work in my car? I would really like to go with a 5 speed, and would probably try to get a wreck, or a rotted out one as a parts donor, but I want to be sure the tranny/clutch/bellhousing/petals and shifter will work. Has anyone tried this before. I do not want to swap out my motor as it runs perfectly.
