what happened to the v6 ?

Why did Chevy stop with V6s in the z24s ? You'd think that would be a great way to push a "gt" model.

i have a feeling the sales just couldn't compete with sales of the 4banger in the Cavalier.

that, and from what i understand the V6 got larger in 95, and didn't fit as well.

the mid 90s thethe sport compact thing was realy developing, and small cars with v6 didnt fit that market. the beretta was the hot 4 cyl car in the early 90s, but it got canned after 96, and the cavalier became the sport compact. you also gotta remember that the competition for the j-body in the 90s was the civic, neon, escort, corrolla, and none of them had v6 motors in them. realy from a marketing stand, it wouldnt make sence to have a v6 in a j-body at that point.

from a consumer point, it would be ausome. a lot of people say they should have put a 3800sc in a j, but could you think of the warrenty issues that would have??? aside from it barly fitting in the car. a 3400 in a 3rd gen would have been ausome.

I feel the same way about the v-6 thing. It stumps me why gm didnt go there in the third gen.

Look in the third gen forum, we are going to go where gm left off. 3.4 grand am gt engine in a third gen. It does fit!

We are still working out the bugs, Im going for the automatic, other guys are doing the 5 spd.

There are a few doing the 3.8 supercharged.

With any luck we may see its return in the cobalt. Since thats the replacement for the cav.

Its good to see first gen cav owners on here, thats been some time ago that they came out. To see that some are surviving Is great

i doubt the cobalt will ever have a v6. they already have 3 motor options (2.2 eco, 2.4 vvt eco and eco s/c) the fastest pushing the cars into the mid 14s. i would actualy rther see the turbo eco thats comming out put in a cobalt. 250hp would be nuts in one.

although ya never know what gm will come up with. if the rumors are true about what dodge is bringing out (srt caliber, rumored 300hp awd) gm is gonna have to pull something out of their ass to compete.

I was somewhat disapointed with the cobalt. I liked the cavi , so I woulda kept the cavalier name. I would like the SS more if the body styling were a bit different , like a dif. front end and maybe a hood scoop, ya know , something that says , I spent more $ and got more. Also if the SS had a turbo instead of a super charger . To me Super chargers should be on V8s. When I think of an SC , I think of a mustang. Not a 4banger.

Speaking of Srts. Some friends of mine , just had their SRT-4 bored to a 2.5. They'd done many MANY upgrades along with a new turbo and should be pushing 400hp as soon as they get it back together, lol. Thats gonna be sooo sweet

The acvalier name was associated with 'cheap' though. As a reesult they simply changed the name. Honestly the Cobalt is the Cavi 4th gen. But whatever, not here nor there...
The V6 from GM can't rock with the foreign market, on the other hand the eco 16v with a turbo WOULD BE AWESOME!!! It would flip the market over. Because for the first time in quite awhile America has compact cars that can race off the line. Even Ford's ZX3 4 and 5 all have more power than the Cobalt. And Yes, and someone already mentioned the CAliber is fast as hell.

Personally I was impressed withe Cobalt I drove. It got up quick and didn't let down till the end of the 1/4 mile.
