ok I have an aftermarket temp guage so that would explain that
and had my charging system checked its charging a 14 volts so Im going to replace the ALT
as far as the knock sensor how would I check for an open ground
and the MAP may have to be replaced cause Ive changed all the vaccum lines because it sat for 5 yrs

One way is to disconnect everything which shares the wire you want to test. Use a DVOM and measure the resistance between the wire and the engine block (ground). There should be no connection, infinite resistance. If you get a number around .2 then you likely have a short to ground.
