Shop Manual

Yep, Paul, I gotta admit, it's time.
Got it bookmarked. Wednesday morning gonna do this. Lord this brings back memories, last time I had factory shop manuals was about 26 years ago. they were for Mustang II's, which ironically were pretty close in size and weight to the J-Bodies.
Secretly, I'm hoping to land one more J sometime down the road - 1st or 2nd gen....just has got to be a 5spd. tho.
Incidentally, a couple of years ago there was a beautiful 2 tone drk grey/ silver Sunbird GT convertible right here sitting near the local car wash with a for sale sign on it. It was one of them that had the pop-up headlights. I remember red under the hood so I know it was the turbo. I happened to see a listing for the same thing on Craigs list a few days ago in this area -$3500 - listed it was an automatic, so it is still sitting somewhere here in a garage. Proof that there are still lots of these cars around!! I don't see such examples of the Escort GT's/EXP's or little Dodge Chargers of the same time frame. Makes me think that the J's were just better built cars during the period.
If you get out to that Caddy again. I'd like to go ahead and get that plug-in at dash with as much wire as you can get by with. Also if you are able to get the oil and temp sensor with the wires that'll be a BIG help. I'm crossing a Pontiac OHC with a Caddy OHV- hard to guess what I'll run into. I'm guessing that the Caddy had the 2.0.
Thanks for looking out for me!!

SWEET!

Not sure when I will get back to the Caddy, but I will get the harness pigtail and as much wire as I can, as well as those sensors...

It depends As Caddy's had the 2.8lv6 as an option on 1985 & 1986 and it was standard in 1987 & 88 models.

I actually think this one had the 6, but we will see when I get back there.

ok, you need the: 1) ip wiring pigtail, 2) 3-wire oil pressure sensor and what else?

cooling sensor on radiator fill not the fan ( think the fan is the one with the green wire)

Paul, you got me to thinking when you mentioned the 3 wire sensor. Does one of those 3 wires go to the ECM? The sensor for the gauge will be a variable resistance, where the one for the idiot light will be basically an on/off switch. I was wondering, if , in case one of those wires goes to the ECM if it might be a different ECM with the gauges than with the idiot lights? Also, I'm wondering if 6cyl has a special Tach due to the extra pulses that coil produces - I remember from my Mustang II days those Tachs actually had a little switch on them for 4 or 6cyl. - the 4 cyl. setting was also used for the V-8 models - unfortunately this is just worthless knowledge from a bygone time....
Anyways, I'd like to get both the oil and temp sensors w/ wiring and the ip wiring pigtail. Also, would like to know if that Caddy is an auto or 5-spd. Reason for that is I'll bet the 5spd models also have the upshift light used on the cluster = an extra wire on the IP I'll need to be aware of. The Caddy I pulled the speedo off of at my yard was a 5spd - poor die hard Caddy fans must have cried!! I'm hoping to get the rest of the cluster I left there.
Just a couple of things you might be interested in for your Pontiac:
That Caddy should have power seat on at least drivers side. I'd think it ought to swap in place of your base if you were interested, major problem would be mounting the controls, but you could just poke them under the sea after you got it set to your preferences. If it , in fact has the power seat on the passengers side - grab it, as those are really really really rare!! That power seat on the passengers side has the plastic mount for the controls thats screwed to the seat base-that's the golden nugget
The Caddy at my yard had its' trunk carpeted really nice - that's now in the back of mine :-) You might be interested in that too.
I read in one of my books that some of those Caddys came with a "firm handling package", which just maybe....might have one of those rear sway bars, it would be worth a peek underneath just to see.

Orlen-

As you already know, the Caddy was a 2.0, an 85 Model. Power seat on driver side only. I am not really in the market for the power seat thing but can grab it if someone needs it. I will have to check out the sway bar next time when I go back for the o/p sensor...
