I'll check the local boneyard for you this weekend or next. Last time I was out they had 3 sunbird ragtops there, fairly complete. They might all be black, though. I'll let you know what I find!

There was one on ebay the other day. Look under "sunbird gt" and you should find it.

yea i saw that one i also sent them an e-mail for more pictures cus i cant tell if it is damaged ( scratches cuts or if snaps are missing ). I am hoping to get ether a new one, used with no fading and no damage, or have one made. i'm going to be to busy this weekend to check the local bone yards. its amazing how much cleaner that makes the car look.

thanks for the help guys

I spent a lonnnnnng time looking for mine. I don't believe anyone makes an aftermarket replacement one. and teh 2nd gen one is different too. So you need like an 84-87 one, which is what's tough.

I finnaly found one, a grey one, in the trunk of a car in a junkyard nearby, that had no trunk lid so the thing had been molding.

It stunk HORRIBLE. I deoderized it using proffessional grade smell neutralizers for like 2 weeks, leaving it in the sun to further remove the oder.

It no longer smells bad enough to detect. I then cleaned i thouroghly and painted it with SEM Vinyl dye - a flexible vinyl spray dye, that is basically paint. Came out awesome, lasted 3 years before I've decided I need to respray it as a few spots are a little grey.

HOWEVER if anyone finds a black one I will pay for it!!

Thanks again for the help guys i just ordered the one off ebay for $38.50 w/shipping. not a bad price for an item that is so hard to find. btw the only problem with it is there is 1 small cut smaller than a penny. I should be able to patch it easily.

$38 used with a cut? Damn!!!

It was snowing here so I didn't get out to the boneyard. But if I come across one next time I'm there, I'll post here and let everyone know. I PROMISE it won't be $38!

Sorry, I know you need it...but WTF are eBay people thinking these days? I've even seen people charging flat rates of $30 for shipping auto parts. It prevented me from bidding on a set of headlights for my Cobra. $30 for shipping headlights...is nuts.

its expensive to ship anything anymore but i figure 38 bucks ( it was like 13 bucks for shipping it priority ) to get something now is much better than driving way out to a bone yard and hope i can find one that is usable. my luck i would have spent more money and way more energy to find one. the bone yards around here are a mess you spend more time looking for the cars and getting to them than it takes to get a part off and most of them dont even know what cars they have in them. call me lazy but ill pay a little more for the convenience.

At least you've got one. If someday you find a nicer one, this can be used as your "spare".

I'm looking for one for an '86 Cav RS too. Are all those J-Body boots interchangable?

They are interchangeable within generation. IE 82-87, 88-94, 95-2000

Outside of that, no, they do not interchange.
