Nic... hope this helps. If it's a 1.8L and a t-type, it's an '86. Starting in '87 all Skyhawks were 2.0L engines. The t-type option/designation was dropped in '87, although the pieces could be ordered seperately. All '87 hatches were called Sport Hatchbacks.

The '86 hatchback was only produced in the second half of the production year. Totals were... T-Types 9414.... Sport 8184 units. No breakdowns for turbo cars for '86 as they were all lumped together with the t-types. Don't forget that you could order a car with the t-type trim option without the turbo engine.

Figures for the '87's were 3757 units, of which 5 were turbo engined.

my 1993 achieva SCX was one of 500 made in that year (final year of the SCX), one of eight in the color blue.

you could say thats kinda rare.

i also have the only 87 sunbird known with a 2.3HO motor swapped into it. kinda rare too.

Last month I parked my 1986 2-door buick Skyhawk 1.8L turbo in the mall parking lot.
Beside me was a Skyhawk 86 4-door. The two cars parked beside each other.. Same color (red upper part and grey lower part). I did not have a camera to record that very
rare event.

I can see the two cars were used as the family workhorse. i.e. no new paint, owner
attention more towards keeping the car running all these years.

I think when you get in the hundreds a car becomes very very rare like speedvisioncavalier said. I think if the source was correct I have one of the rarest Sunbird Hatchbacks in exsistence (535) . Its a 1985 SE 1.8 Turbo, black/silver, black Interior.

If you want to think of it like this, its been some time since they made 1st gens so you have to also account for the cars that have been crushed, burned, wrecked and it makes a car such as a t-type pretty rare.

wow, I just looked at the production numbers for cavs, (i have been looking for that for a while) I have an 86 hatch z24, I kinda wish I had gotten an 87, only half as many were made 4,517 vs 10,226. is there anyway to find out how many exist now?
