sunbird exhaust manifold problem
Friday, February 25, 2005 3:15 PM
ok everybody i did a search and couldn't find what i was looking for. so i was under the hood of my sunbird today after noticing it not running right, i found some smoke coming out of the bottom of the exhaust manifold, my question is will a cavalier 2.2 exhaust manifold fit on my bird, or a 2.0 cavy, or newer one will that fit cause i gotta get a new one and i was thinking of a newer one. thanks

^^^ ? Why don't u list what kind of car and engine you have and what engine the manifold you're trying to put on is from that would certainly help

dont be such a dick, he said its a sunbird, and he's asking if 4 banger cavy engine manifolds work. doesnt exactly take sherlock @!#$ holmes to come with an educated guess that he has a 1.8 or 2.0 OHC.

in response to the question at hand.....no, a 2.2 OHV or 2.0 OHV from cavy's wont work, you need a 2.0 OHC manifold. they're all over junkyards. if you have a 3.1, then any ol 3.1 will work, and again readily available at a junkyard. if you have a 2.0 turbo, you need the 2.0 manifold, harder to find in junkyards, but they are all over ebay for like 80 bucks

I know I'm kinda bringing this back from the dead but I think everyone really needs to know this cause it bothers me that nobody else seems to know.
Sunbirds never came with OHV 4cyl except for one year in 1982 when the J platform was first introduced and the cavys never came with OHC motors.
So just by him talking about other four cylinders interchainging you know he has a four cyl and by him saying he has a sunbird you know its a OHC and most likley a 2.0 cause I dont "think" 1.8's ever came in second gens.
If everyone could just remember that one little fact questions would get answered a lot easier around here and people would'nt get yelled at so often for not saying exactly what the have, even though they deserve it for not saying anything about what they have, but this guy at least yold you what kind of car it was.

Well, what was causing the smoke?
Do you need to tighten the bolts on the exhaust manifold or something?
I'm not understanding what the cause of the problem is....or what the symptoms you were experiencing are?

What really happened?
