Flowmaster 40 question.
Thursday, March 03, 2005 7:25 PM
I have a 93 Sunbird, 3.1, 5 speed. Would a Flowmaster 40 sound like rice at higher rpms? Also which out of the flowmaster series would sound best. I had searched but found no topic saying whether or not the sound got ricey at high end.

Most flowmaster Mufflers don't sound like rice... They're like the official muscle car mufflers!

Nice. I have the 40 series already on my 93 Dodge Dakota (wrecked) The muffler is fairly new, was only on there say a month. Guess I will be pulling it off tomarrow for something to do. I just wanted to check b-4 all the work or buying another series. I really want a good rumble, but not something that would rice out at higher rpm range.

I don't know if they make them for J-bodies, but see if you can get a hold of an American Thunder system... They're *hot* and rumble enough to make your neighbors think there's a storm-a-brewin... They're still legal though

If I put the 40 on, would right where the stock muffler is be a good spot? I dont have the resources to put it in the middle of a new exhaust system right now so I was figuring at the end where the stock muffler is now would be ok with a decent tip. I will look into that American Thunder.

yes put the muffler at the back were the stock muffler is, there is nowere else to put it unless you ditch the cat and put it there.

ive heard various mufflers on our v6's. the 40 series sounds good but a bit raspy. if you put resonator tips on it will dull the raspyness a bit. the 60 series is my favorite, it has a nice low tone and no raspyness at all.

Yea, in place of the cat is what I was refering to. Auto Zone should have some resonator tips ey?

I have an 88 Z24 v-6 with a flowmaster 40 on it, and it produces a nice rumble at idle, and roars when you red line it. It doesn't sound "ricey" at all. if you want a flowmaster, i'd reccomend a 40 series.

I have the 2.25 inch exhaust and the flowmaster that I already have is a 3 in, 3 out. Would that effect anything if fitted to my current setup?

I dont see why it really should have a major effect on your car it's only being adapted to your piping so you should be fine.
