Starter Gremlin

This is more-than-likly having to do with the remote start... however imma throw this out here to see if anyone else has had this problem and its in the factory cavy wiring...

The remote start works 1 out of ever 10 trys... when it does start... it will restart until the car moves.....

When the remote start doesnt work... the key start usually works... however after i drive for a while (like an excess of a 2 hours... or combination of many short drives w/in 2 hours)... it wont start.... the starter doesnt even try to engauge... its like if u put it in gear... and try to start (or for u manual folks, if u try to start without depressing the clutch)...

Now i know its any part of the starter... i can take the trans dipstick and hit both the positive and the remote terminals on the starter solenoid and she starts right up... (and i know how dangerous that is... i didnt have a jack at the time and i was in a rush)... i have found that when it sits over night it starts right up in the morning... today i was at a gas station... i let the car sit for 20 minutes after realizing it wouldnt start... and she started right up...

Any ideas....

Do you have an auto or 5spd? Not sure how you have the remote start wired in but could it be something w/ your neutral safety switch?

Ive had the remote start installed since september 2003..... never a problem till about 6 months ago... and its been slowly.. very slowly progressive....

i have an automatic... it doesnt matter whether i shift through the gears... if it doesnt start... only hitting the starter terms or wating will get it tostart...

ive also noticed if i tap the starter ... even if i doesnt start... the key then immediately works

Are you saying that if you do this it cranks? If so its probably your starter solenoid, it may have some dead spots on the contact plates

the positive terminal on your starter itself? i had that problem on my old 2.0L. it slowley loosened itself... not sure if that helps, but problem sounds kinda the same.

I dont think its either... whenever i take the trans dipstick or go under the car and use a screwdriver to cross the positive term and remote term, it always starts right up.... if i just tap the two terminals and it begins to start, it starts right up... im thinking it has something to do with the sensor telling it whether it is in gear or not... i just dont know how the time issue plays in to that (why it works after sitting for x-period of time... ) i dont think heat is a factor cause the problem started last winter...

Not to post whore but just to clarify... cause i just re-read it and i didnt get my thought out

When i tap the two terminals and it begins to crank but the connection doesnt stay on long enough to turn over (like maybe 1.5 - 2 seconds)... the key will then work... however if i use the dip stick or screw driver to move the wires around (both the wires on the postive term, and the wire on the remote term) it doesnt help anything...
