hey guys, if ya's dont remember here is my original post for this car..
http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=29&i=47398&t=47398#47398

i've been working at it a bit as weather premits, and a buddy of mine welded my rocker panels on. the driver's door is still shot, i picked up another one that was a bit better (a bit of surface rust underneath and what not, but it wasn't near as bad as the original door.. it was all separated at the bottom, etc. yuck. anyways, here are a few pics of the progress so far and what I have to work with.. feedback appreciated, positive - negative - whatever lol. i'm just an amateur so keep that in mind.. i'm no body-fill expert just an amateur.. so here goes

Thanks!

please tell me u grinded out all that rust prior to the bondo.

if not, your gonna kick your self in the ass for not doing it.

and i hope that rocker pannel is metal now... or else its not gonna last long.

lol. what kinda moron puts bondo over rust? i said i was an amateur (no offense if anyone may have done this.. i just figured it was common knowledge?)

yeah but i went crazy with the grinder, all down to the bare metal. i patched a small hole in the bottom corner of the door with some long-strand fiberglass filler, went along the bottom seem with the fiberglass also, and i went over the rest that I grinded with some Evercoat plastic filler (same thing as bondo i guess).

a guy i went to high school with is back in town, talked to him and found out he has a MIG welder... he welded on my rocker panels (galvanized steel) quite heavy gauge that i got made up at a local fabrication shop... they fit on perfect and the doors close with ease. and while he was at it we hit a weak spot in the quarter panel so he welded a piece in there as well. it is all rock-guarded, kind of a shame the bottom half of the car is going to be covered up..

thanks for the feedback.

do ya's think it would look ok with the car painted glossy black, the ground effects painted glossy black.- with the small trim painted grey all around, and the GTZ rims painted grey? i dont want to get the rims painted black.. i want them to stand out. please let me know any of your opinions

Oh man.... I look forward to having alot of fun like you.....

Im going to get started on my Z24 hood today, and then work my way back with both doors and the rocker panels, those are my only real rust spots on the car though.

My Z24 clone currently rides on GTZ wheels as well....

oh yea lots of fun, lol. i have some water getting in when it rains, another guy had the same problem with leaks in the same areas.. behind the rear side window where the c-pillar meets the rest of the body.. and the notorious "firewall leak" down in the cowl.. it was patched when i looked at it when i got it, i'm just gonna patch it better.

but after all that is what i'm looking forward to, once i start getting things painted and the bumpers put on then its time to do up the interior. like i say i was hoping to have it ready for paint by now but the weather hasnt cooperated with me the past 2 weeks minus maybe 2 good days lol. very nice clone you have there too, btw

Heres my results with a few hours of wetsanding and using a little bit of body filler....

Ive got to wetsand it again and get another can of primer, but thanks for the inspiration.

coming along good so far! i have 2 phase2 hoods.. 1 came on the car, 1 came with the bumpers, etc. the one that came on the car is white.. the one that came with my stuff is kinda burgandy with diff colors here and there but is in better shape... the white one has a fairly deep scratch in it. could be fixed but i'd rather start off with the better of the two... then its wetsanding, primer, etc for me too lol. fun stuff man. keep us updated on the progress. the hoods are so much nicer than stock

lol you guys look like you're having as much fun as me although you seem to have better resouces lol, i'm rebuilding my rockers with old stove metal coated in porceline, and pop rivets (heavy ass duty) i need to take pictures of my progress still, but if you want to see how things are going head to my Project page www.Cardomain.com/id/darkambience

note: if you guys want to add me to friends lists, go to www.cardomain.com/id/Myst3rio kuz i'm switching pages and names ect

you guys are lucky with the hoods, i'm going to have to wait until i can afford to get a new one, none of the birds around here have good hoods on them

(also using the long strand and evercoat method, evercoat is so much better than bondo, i'm glad for you that you're using it)

Mysterio i see you are from NS as well. yeah the Evercoat is quite easy to work with and i got the gallon can for $11.99cdn. it sands out very nice. it's very good for the lighter jobs i am off to rip out the back seat now (going to try and fit in a Beretta GTZ seat with a little persuasion, see how it looks. i also have to find the source of a leak while i'm in there so i guess that's what i'm up to now. going to check out your page now man.

The GTZ seats do work out really well, the fronts need some customizing, but the backs are a bolt in.

*does the mr. burns thing*
exxxcellent...

that looks awesome. i also find those front seats so much more comfortable... hoping i can get the fronts off the guy too, but i know the back seat is no problem..

for customizing... i assume u probably have to take the mounting hardware out of the GTZ and mount it in the Cav? or is there more to it than that? yeah that looks awesome in your car man.
