well . . . it is possible IF the spark plugs he removed were
completely corroded, and if oem airfilter was completely
clogged... I could see those mods restoring horsepower
rather than gaining additional power. Two simple words..
Overdue Maintenance.

well, being the 2.0l ohc doesnt even have 130hp to start with, you see were im comming from

are you using a g-tech to come up with these numbers??? those things are nowere near accurate.

Re: HEY

eh let him mis-inform the stupid ones! all it takes is a little common sense, and if you don't got it, doing this "mod" and finding it's will probly knock some into you after spending as much as you will to find out the stuff you had in the first place would have done about as good if it were taken out and cleaned every oil change or two, i mean, i go over the plugs in all the cars i work on with a wire brush and a high grit sandpaper to the tip of the electrode, you have to regap every once in a while, but it saves a bit on going out and buying new ones every tranny oil change

(yes thats right, spoken like a true jack-ass)

it's probably the 3.1 liter sunbird.
Re: HEY
Saturday, June 18, 2005 9:43 PM
.... tae that into consideration then, but then shouldn't it still be making more horses than that? esp with a higher flow air filter?... honestly i been in a kinda bad mood.... and a post like this is kinda of... well... think about it... we're all car nuts, who of us all hasn't replaced the stock air filter when they can afford it? (ok i haven't done it yet... but i'm still just starting to make money ) anyway... thats my point, i may not have been very nice.. but i mean come on... spark plugs and an air filter? grow up...

totally ... I thought he had a 3.1... and even than, there
is no way you'll get 130hp to the wheels from a 140hp
engine

well, im gonna take a stab and say its a 2.0l. his car isnt listed in his profile, but under his name it says "4doorsunbird92" and i have never seen a 3.1l sunbird 4 door, at least not a factory made car.

Re: HEY

4 door factory 3.1's totally exist... a good buddy of
mine owned one, and there are quite a few on the
org. none-the-less, I still agree with you - It seems
impossible to squeeze 130hp from a 6 let alone a
4 with those mods

well my 94 3.1 put down 145 to the wheels and 175 ft lbs. all i had were "D" shaped exhaust ports ( did them my self to copy GM, fast burn heads and the 3x00 heads.) with matched exhaust manafolds. a warm air intake and a muffler.

made me run a 1\2 sec faster and i eaven got better gas milage.
octane booster seemed to do alot too with that car, but who knows maby the knock sencer was really good and the ECM and E-prom learned fast.

oh well

Yea the 3.1 responds excellently to any sort of head work. the stock heads are so restrictive on them.

Re: HEY

I'm pretty sure the stock horsepower rating for a 2.0 (in 93 anyway) is 110hp at somwhere around 3 grand. I thinks my dad's 3.1rag top is rated at 140hp in the users manual, and just for giggles his 97 Sunfire 2.4 is rated at 150hp in the manual. My car's probably putting out somewhere around 135WHP (I wanna say 140 but I don't want to push it) 150 if you go buy what the mods are said to ad, but we all know thats crap. My car isn't even street legal, so I'm seriously doubting the numbers he's putting out too.

Stock replacement filters don't do much on 2nd gens, the intake piping before the filter is just too damn restrictive. They make em run smoother though.

I laughed before I even saw the numbers, "make it run real good"

My car hates bosch plugs, I'd think his would too.
