cleaning up my rusty drums... can I paint 'em?

hey..

so my drums are a bit rusty, since the car was sitting in buddy's yard all winter before i ended up getting it.. the guy at the shop says the drums are alright until it goes away in the fall, so i'm wondering - i see this VHT caliper paint up at Canadian Tire. when i clean my drums up a bit can you paint the outsides of the drums? they look nasty as hell and the car is getting painted this week. i understand it says "caliper" paint on the can but is it safe to paint the outsides of the drums that don't come into contact with anything? or would you guys advise against this? yeah i'm a newb at alot of things, but i'm still learning about things as i go!

so yeah to sum it up.. rusty drums, still function fine : what would you guys do?

Yeah you can paint the outside of the drums. Make sure you get all the rust off first.

You can paint anything with it, the only reason it specify's it as "caliper paint" is to let you know it can take the high heat generated by the caliper. If you painted a caliper with normal paint it would get hot and pretty much melt the paint off of it, I dont think drums get that hot but it will still work, and if they do happen to see extreme temps then the paint will still hold up.

Yeah, wire brush those drums good, and clean em off good too, then use high-heat caliper paint.

Hey, thanks for the reminder! I've been wondering what to do with my day off this week, then I read this and remembered that I already bought a can of high-heat paint to do the same thing.
