cross members between back seat and trunk needed?
Tuesday, July 19, 2005 3:35 PM
Hi all. I am setting up my 94 cavalie for a subwoofer compition and I am in dire need of space in my trunk. Anyways I was wondering if I could just cut out the little thin so called "braces" between my back seat and my trunk.

For pictures of what I mean go here.

(The pictures are at the bottom of the post. Im not sure if you have to be logged in to see the pictures though. ) Let me know if so, I will move the pictures to somewhere else.

I would love to just put up a temp wall where those braces are and not have to build a box. Then I could put things in my trunk if I need to! :0) yay Let me know.

i cut mine out on my old one... so i don't see why you couldn't.

they probably add a lil' support to the rear deck of the car, but i didn't notice anything. after all, the ones with a fold down back seat didn't have them.

also, if you put a rear sway bar in, it would make up for the handeling loss and probly gain a little

Those metal pieces back there are only to support the seat back of the non-folding seat. I've looked though the service manual, the Z24 with folding seats does not indicate any additional bracing.

You need new rear seats to do it, cause the fold down ones open half and half, actually its like 70, 30 or something, but basically the two parts in the middle fold down and the edges stay there, all you need to do is pull out your back seats cut the braces in the way of getting into the trunk and put the fold down seats in, you only need to replace the back part that folds down, you dont need to change the part you sit on.

There is actually a difference between the cars with the fold down and without it. Its not aditional bracing, its a different piece.
