my 91 has 137K on the original 2.2 tbi and it runs like a baby. no oil leaks or burning and showing no signs of getting tired.

The blue 88 Coupe is sitting somewhere around 285k, It smoked a few head gaskets along the way and the top end of the motor was rebuilt due to that. Died because of water in the oil.

Atleast it is chillin in a garage these days..... Saved from a junkyard for the time being with a garage full of spare parts.

My '89 Lil Red sedan made it to 186,774.4 miles before I had to park her because of the transmission. She probably would have made it to 200,000+ if the previous owner would have taken better care of her. When I got it the oil hadn't been changed for 12,000+ miles and was nice and sludgy, the antifreeze was a greenish brown partly due to all the dirt in the overflow tank and god knows when the last time the transmission fluid had been changed and the tires were literally down to the inner cords.

thats the typical way people treat older cavaliers . and the wonder why imports "last longer". somethings only as good as the way it was treated.

Hi,
My '89 turbo 'Bird SE coupe has 233,000mi on it. The engine's never been touched - but most else has been replaced. It's my daily driver (as I don't want to get my '07 Solstice GXP scratched...). Everything still works great - except the trip odo.
Take care,
Moe

Currently circle track racing a 1992? I think. 2.2 auto 4 door. Has 206,000 miles and I bounce it off the rev limiter every week. This car won't die we have been racing it for 3 years now front end all messed up still runs strong. Ran a 100 lap enduro at the begging of the year finished 85 out of 100 laps. Ate a sparkplug at 65 laps then threw the passenger front tread off the tire with 10 laps to go. Ended up 5th out of 19 cars with about 9 cars actually finishing the race.

167k on the body (where its been since the originial motor blew a head gasket and then spun a rod bearing)

Had this car remained my daily driver, add about 52000 to it (since thats what ive put on my Z24), 219k

My 91 Z24 5 speed has got well over 180k miles on it, not sure of correct mileage as I reset odometer a few yrs ago. I rebuilt it from a front end total and discovered it had been wrecked once before that. Ive had it since 2001 and have tried to kill it several times and it wont die. All thats been done as far as keeping it running is one starter, replaced ac compressor and misc ac parts with it, tune ups, 1 set of rear wheel bearings( added stereo weight) and 2 clutchs ( first one was a kevlar race that didnt live long on street). I have held it at the rev limit for almost 10 mins to try and kill it so I would have a reason to build a new engine but it just keeps ticking. It has ran hot a few times an even shut down due to being overheated, put some water in it and keep going. It has never even had the upper intake off of it or anything. Im gonna keep driving till it dies. Oh and it still gets 28mpg at 80mph with the air on and all my crap in it.

I Have an '88 SkyHawk coupe (2.0 VIN code K/ TH125 auto trans) with 197,866 miles on it, all original except wheels and left door. I lost those after a custom van, driven by my friend's wife, in a hurry to get hockey tickets and not looking backing up shoved it against a curb and dragged it almost 10 feet). This car is "ugly enough to be a modern art masterpiece." It's gray with a white door from an '89 Sunbird. It was my daily driver until a I bought an '03 Accord new. It's lost some bottom end oil pressure (light comes on periodically) and a little oil gets by the valve guide seals. I just pull and clean the plugs every 3 months and go on with my day. It doesn't burn oil (except the occasional puff of valve leak burnoff from a cold crank). I found a supplier of long block assemblies for 1.8 1nd 2.0 OHC motors and grabbed one for $485.00 shipped. I also have a local body shop in my pocket (College Paint & Body, Raleigh, NC) that does very nice work. Coming up is a paint job with all glass out, front and rear clips off, replacing all seals and trim. I figured this car took such good care of me I ought to return the favor. My Accord and '94 Firebird Formula aren't jealous of the attention... and like 91z24audio said these cars can get hellacious mileage. I once got 443 miles on 11.5 gallons on an all-highway-miles trip in Eastern NC.

If anyone's interested (no offense taken if not) I'll do a post on the engine swap and another on the before and after body work.

I have a 1993 sunbird gt with a 3.1 5-speed I got for free. It currently has 347,747kms on it and works like a dream other than I think the slave cylinder has finally bit the dust.

Our bird has 230,000 miles on it now, it had the original 2.0 engine & trans until 220,000 - then swapped to 80k mile junkyard 2.0. Someday it will probably get the rebuilt original back .

• 86 Skyhawk wagon : 2.0SOHC swap, Megasquirt, 20SEH cam
• 93 Sunbird sedan : 2.0SOHC, Microsquirt, ported head, 10:1

My 90 Z24 3.1l just passed the 275,000 km mark, its numbers matching and religiously maintained and gets put through its paces daily. Both the engine and the tranny are the original, never blown or burnt, but I sure would like to drop a 5 speed in it.
