Can the timing be adjusted on a 1986 2.8?
Friday, March 30, 2012 2:36 PM

I have an 86 Cimarron and the previous owner replaced the distributor. He said the timing needed to be set. I cannot find the adjustment for it in the Chiltons or the Caddy service manual. They only reference the 87 and up motors. I know it is a 1st gen but most of them are 4cyl so I figured I would ask the question here.

Thanks, John

Actually what I cannot find is the single brown wire with black stripes to put the dist in the timing mode. I can see a brown wire with black stripes but is in the harness and not by itself. I set the timing without disconnecting the harness. Will the timing be set correctly? It seems to run a little better and was off the timing mark by about 1 inch before and now it is right on.
