Update: looks like Maria is going north of the island not through the south. Generator starts but the carb is shot now. POS Tecumseh!

Ordered a float bowl kit for the carb this morning , hopefully it gets here Saturday. Probably out of power for a long while since the electrical system here is like the 1950's.

Yeah, looks like Irma was just a show opener. I will keep checking in to see if we hear from you. Understand it may be awhile till power and communications are available again.

Good Luck My Friend I hope you do well!

Wow, looks like this one might have been a good bit closer to Salinas than Irma was.

Our prayers are with you Doug.

Thanks for asking Orlen.

Things are pretty much back to normal here now. Still some piles of debris that hasn't been picked up yet, but that is about all. I think most of the power and water has been restored to the area. We were very lucky here. Down south a bit, people weren't as fortunate and got quite a bit more damage than we did.

For everyone interested - I got word from Doug today!!

Received a letter from him. He and His family are fine. House is unscathed, but a few trees and telephone pole were blown down and have been now cut up. His car and truck are also Ok. Biggest troubles has been Electricity and Water service. Internet is basically non- existent. He is working but the schedules have been cut back. He has a Generator and has been hauling water as needed with sporadic water service slowing coming back around.

It was wonderful to hear from him, and it is a pleasure to share some good news here on the 2nd Gen forum!

I'm back. Power was turned on today! It's only been 5 months and 3 days! Got one of these smart phones for internet since the phone and internet cables are far from being hooked up. Hard to type on this little screen. Doug in P.R.

Wow, that is a looooong time without power. People here freak out if the power is off 5 hours!

Anyway, glad you are well and things are improving down your way.

Thanks Butch, sent you a letter the same time as I did Orlen but yours came back as not deliverable. Used the same address went you sent me the brake pedal pad. Post office was closed for 2 weeks following the storm and then they were only receiving mail , not sending it out. My sisters sent me a new generator ( small one) because when I finally got the carb bowl kit from the states it worked great for a while then the coil mounting tangs on the cylinder head broke off. My wife's aunt and uncle's generator blew up so we gave them the gen since they needed one for their well. They got it welded so it ran better than the gimmy way I had it to run. No fridge for 2 weeks waiting on the replacement gen. Just an old 300 watt inverter that was 17 years old. That finally fried also so ordered one through Summit to get us by another week. Good thing the other gen was small, 8 hours on a gallon of gas to run the fridge , fan ,TV and other small things. The gas station lines were long any ways and they had a 5 gallon limit also. The First 5 weeks were the worst since you had to wait in line for everything . Supermarkets had nothing on the shelves either. Walmart took you in with an escort. Much break-ins at business's and homes all over so someone had be home 24/7. They were stealing the water tanks, generators that run the water company pumps , the big generators on 4 wheels, you name it. Cops were non existent, to scared to ride around at night. The national guard came up
patrolling ocasionally but not too often. Slowly things got back to normal after maybe 3 months. Had to haul water in barrels maybe a week total. Was smart , had water stored around the house so we didn't have to haul as much as most people. Catched rain water also for the toilet and for washing clothes. Only thing left to fix is the front fence ( where the telephone pole fell), the washer ( ordered part yesterday) and a couple of tree stumps that are leaning on fences still. Also some stucco on the house that fell off and where we had to nail boards on to protect glass windows. Thanks to all that were worried and praying as it was much appreciated. Doug in P.R.

Quite an ordeal.

I moved, that is why the letter was returned. However, I still live in New Port Richey and I did file a change of address when I moved. That was a year and a half ago. Anyway, we all felt better when we got news you were fine.

Great to hear you are getting back toward normal. People up hear panic when we run out of coffee on our kitchen... we wouldn’t last one week without power! May you and your family and friends be safe as the recovery continues

Thanks guys, if you ask me it wasn't scary, just like a jet taking off. Almost everyone with tin or wood roof or wood house had damage. Most roofs turned into kites and most wood houses were blown apart or sucked in.l was more scared when we lived in Syracuse and we had that 1998 Labor Day storm come through. High tailed it to the basement on that one.
