camshaft replacement
Friday, January 11, 2019 1:45 PM
My bird has been in the garage since Nov 26, 2018. Went in for a blown head gasket and the shop discovered that the camshaft was scored badly. Apparently finding a replacement cam was to be more difficult than he had thought. I've been scouring the web for over two weeks now in an attempt to locate one myself, The bird is a 1988 Sunbird Gt Turbo coupe convertible. The engine code is M. I have found several camshafts out there for the engine code K naturally aspirated. the code M is a different story. Should anyone here have a idea where I might find the correct camshaft it would be greatly appreciated. This bird needs to fly once again.

Any 92 - 94 LE4 cam (2.0 OHC) is the same as the earlier Turbo cam.

I don't have the lift specs, I'll try to find them.

Many aftermarket cams can be found in Europe.

Don't forget the ballbearing that goes inside the cam when replacing it.

I guess those 2 above are hard to find so here is another:

Sealed Power CS 838 ( available from Jegs.com )

I found that the proper duration is 214*/214* for this cam not 189*/189*.

A quick search found none available new, looks like Europe is the only answer.

I will start a new search for the 92-94 camshaft. I'm still looking for the specs. Does 189-189 duration sound familiar to you?

I mentioned above it's 214/214 not 189/189.
