tein basics concerns or issues ?
Tuesday, January 03, 2012 4:24 AM
well its a new year and time to finally ditch my old suspension ( Dspecs+sportlines), and i was looking getting some Tein basics for upgrades. i was curious if people who have had them for awhile what are your issues or concerns with them ?

any extra info would be nice

Ive had mine since 06, I love them. For as little as I drive the car I have no complaints, I only about about 5k on them. I am sad to say I believe I blew one of my rear struts at my own doing because I set them too stiff for track purposes. I have oil in my left rear wheel well. So I have to send it to Tein to get fixed, no biggie.

Still, I have ZERO complaints about them. Paint has held up, no rust issues. I did however have to buy the 2" lower springs for the front which was an extra 100 bux, because the springs that come with the kit are not low enough at all for the J's.

Tein offers it, no clue as to why they didnt include the lower one in the first place.

I have had mine on for about 7 months now.

With my stock LS rims on the fronts, I had very little clearance between the inside rubber and springs. Not a big deal and easy to fix.

I have had TEIN coilovers in 3 different cars, and will continue to support their products. Great quality products, fast customer service, and the handling is, as usual, unbelievable

If you are planning on buying brand new, I would suggest waiting until TEIN puts another sale on their website. I got mine for $700 during their last sale.

Basics use mushy stock rubber mounts, so you have to re-use the ones in the car now or buy new ones of those. And there is always talk on here about how lowering springs make the <70k upper strut mount life even worse. For only a couple hundred more you end up with a set of coils that has the already lower spring in the front, solid upper mounts, and camber plates.

i thought about going witht the Tein SS but my problem is truely trying to justify the price over what the car will actually be used for.....its gonna be a weekend / every once in a while drag car, nothing more and never was really into autocross so i just cant seem to justify the need for camber plates and more adjustability

Forgot about the 2k upper mounts I had to buy with them, thats only because I have a pre 2k car. So you have no worries there.

But arent the pre-2k mounts the ones that are suggested as being better?

Im not sure, but I know it was suggested by Tein for us in the group purchase who have pre 2k cars to get 2k front mounts.

Jason, im sure you will be fine with your 03 mounts.

The Pillowball mounts were the main selling point to me for choosing the SuperStreets over the Basics. Just the piece of mind of not having to worry about when the stock mounts are going to die again.

Well if you were going to get the lower front springs like suggested it would only be a 200 dollar difference.

Yep, plus the lower springs were 100 bux, I knew I wouldnt drive the car much so Im not worried about my mounts deteriorating

My ss are the other way around. I would need shorter spring for the rear to drop mine anymore.

I have SS on both my cavys. I wanted them over the basics for the daily because of the adjustable dampener and the solid mounts are a plus. I got them both used one set for a lot and the other set for like $500. Funny thing is the ones on my Daily driver have about 8 threads left all the way around and sit the same height as on the Z with only 4 threads all the way around.

Its definitely not a stock feeling ride, but it feels ok, no harshness but a little bouncy on rough patches of roads. It is a million times better than the pro-kit/AGX combo I was previously running. I've had friends that rode in it tell me they didn't even realize it was lowered. And they are a plus for spirited driving for sure!

Buy the SS basics are fine but for a little more the SS are worth it.

Hell I still have my basics on the car love the little bastards
