I was wondering if anyone here has tried taking their springs off their struts before without a spring compression tool? If so how?
I am looking for struts for my newly aquired Eibach pro-kit performance coils, If anybody has some?
yeah you can do it, just lay it down away from stuff and hit the nut with the impact, but you wont get it back together with out the compressor.

ANY auto parts store will let you
RENT the spring compressor tool and all you do is return it when you are done and get your money back. It is practically free.
yes the loaner are free, at least they are at OReilly and Autozone if you have one nearby.
You can loosen the top nut before you even pull the strut off the car. The weight will keep it together.

You can do the rears without a compressor, the fronts, I wouldnt even try without a compressor.

Well I ended up renting the tool and was able to get the coils off the struts no problem. thanks guys. As WHITECAVY said the rears were really easy but the fronts were a pain cause of the pressure. now I just need to find some used struts!

I just put on a set of KYB AGX and still have teh stock replacement struts sitting in my garage !!

I got my sportlines off with no spring compressor no problem. The fronts were not under that much pressure at all. I had no troubles putting them back on new shocks either. I wouldn't reccomend doing it for safety reasons obviously BUT it can be done safely without a spring compressor.

I am looking for something that will support the 1.5 inch drop that the springs give. I don't want to go any lower at the moment cause it is a DD. Basically doing this to help stiffen the ride up a bit and help get rid of some bad bad bad body roll lol.

just use your stock set or get on ebay, they have kyb gr2 sets cheap and stagg sets cheap right now. I had a set of tein springs on stock struts for a while they were great with 215/40 and 225/45 on 17in wheels on my old Z. I'm on here tonight to see what strut set people seem to like for a DD/track car actually

Go with KYB AGX's for your Eibach Pro-Kits. It's a proven combo and the they're going to be your cheapest option most likely unless you find a hell of a deal on Tokico Blue's, D-Specs or Koni Yellows. Although if you find a set of those, you midaswell go with Sportlines for an even lower stance closer to how mine looks with Goldline springs.
